It's *** morning time. someone has to teach me to play civ 5 proper. I'm stuck between warlord being too easy & prince being doable but fairly annoying. money seems to be my issue. or lack there-of that is.

Now France is like "Bonjour mon ami. I will give you 3 iron and some gold for those spices, wii?" So now you think "Sweet, 3 more swordsman! My army is invincible!" Not so fast. 30 turns later, you no longer have access to the 3 iron, putting your iron at -3. Do your swordsman vanish? Certainly not, however, all off your iron based units will have a penalty (I believe 20%) to their fighting strength until you get out of negative iron. The AI knows this. They will try to give you resources knowing that they are essentially useless to you, unless you are currently at war. So if the AI offers me horses or iron etc, I always switch it for more gold. Also trade routes are a HUGE help for money gain, though I don't recall if they are in vanilla or not.
