Yes, I know. That's why I'm using it. Isn't that the original term? I could say record.

Somebody wind up the phonograph!

I guess it was just weird then that you refer to the term CD as dated then...

Yeah! I'm aware! LOL! I don't know what else to call them now.

"Downloading a CD," as opposed to, "Downloading and album." I don't have a clue anymore.

Mosin don't you dare turn into the hoppy!

meh.

It's growing troublesome to me that we can't discuss anything anymore without a retard bursting in going "I DON'T UNDERSTAND ANY OF THE SUBJECT MATTER, BUT IT'S ALL OBAMA'S FAULT" and then 5 pages of trying to explain the subject matter to said retard.

it's like high school all over again.

I'll try to calm down, as none of it matters, but I have a very hard time finding intelligent conversation in the real world, & that P&R section used to be my little bastion. so exuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuusssseeeeee me all to hell if I'm a little pissy about it's continual degradation.

lol. idk. I'm awful.

You're right though, Mos!

Okay, so Friday we went to a local wing place to goof off and watch the NCAA tourney, and after one of the games (I only pay attention to the last ten minutes or so of basketball games, because that's the butt-clencher part), one of our buddies' husband made the comment, "My bracket might be ***, but so is Obama's." I'm getting so sick of how politics just infiltrates the most mundane activities now.

I'd be pretty damn nice is we could adopt the old protocol of no politics amongst company that some may not be very familiar with everyone. Sometimes, I wonder if it's because of forums that this is not observed anymore IRL. It's becoming all-consuming.

My dad is under the impression that my father-in-law is also Republican, because you know, it's Texas, and they were born within a couple of years of each other. I feel like I have to mediate way too much now.

we should hook him up with my dad once he moves down there, & they can circle jerk it up with politics & shoot wild hogs. I can see it now, a match made in heaven.

Apparently, they don't actually have an "official mascot"...Let me Wiki the entire story. It's pretty funny. Ivy League trolls! It makes me love that mascot more.

EDIT: Boop!

Quote:
However, in 1975, the band had performed a series of halftime shows that facetiously suggested several other new mascot candidates it considered particularly appropriate for Stanford, including the Steaming Manhole, the French Fry, and the Tree. The Tree ended up receiving so much positive attention that the band decided to make it a permanent fixture, and thus began the process through which the Tree has gradually colonized the collective unconscious of Stanford's student body.

to be fair, my Dad was always a crazy ***.

It does seem to be getting worse with time though. he keeps talking about how when he retires down there (t-minus 2 years or so) that he's not going to work or do anything, & then start asking me for money when he runs out. I was all "uuuuhhhh you better come up with a better plan than that, numbnuts, because you haven't built enough equity for that to ever come to fruition" he chackled like a loon for a while, mumbled about getting more whiskey, and said "well that's the plan, you better get to saving" I laughed some more & said he was entirely ben's (my brother) problem, & I wouldn't even foot the bill for a shitty nursing home.

So, I'm off work today, we were fired. Basically, my brother got us this job, pouring a foundation for a garage/shop. Dad and bro started last Monday, building up level ground because the guy lied and said the ground was level, that took all week. Monday of this week the whole crew is ready, we get there at 7:00, dig piers, take measurements, set string lines, start setting forms, etc. this goes on constantly till 11:30 when we take our lunch break (late btw). We get back, set the rest of the forms except one so we could still grade the ground perfectly, we start nailing 2x2 boards around the edge (sheet metal buildings have a 2x2 inch indention where a bar fastens to screw the sheets on), we need to run to the store half way through this at about 1:45, we do so, when we get back, the owner is there. He seemed laid back and friendly, starts putting in plumbing and electrical conduit which dad digs a ditch for. At 3:30, we head home. That night my brother gets a call, the owner, bitching. "You had four grown men out there, what did you all do? All you did was set forms and wanted to leave at 3:30. There was no reason you couldn't work till sun down!" So, we went up to get our equipment yesterday. I lied, we quit. XD

Now for the part I find funny: The guy said he was going to tackle it himself, he's a welder, he planned to weld the rebar together (which is a waste of time) and when we got curious, we took my sister's car up to run by the job. He was on a rental digger, digging a utilities ditch....which has to be done after the slab is poured, which it wasn't, because it is right in the truck's path. So this will put him off till after his lines are inspected then the ground has to be packed and settle or else the concrete truck will sink and get stuck. Basically, the guy got too fired up, started scolding my brother and my 60 y/o father over the phone and now he's dealing with his job himself and seems to have no idea how to plan things out.

The sudden change in attitude, the "get-on-my-level" way of telling us to work till sun down, and the bragging about his money... Yeah, I've seen this type before, I say he's on cocaine and doesn't really have the amount of money he was bragging about having. It's fine though, we'll be heading to the job for the oil company that we put off for him. \o/

I guess I just don't understand how steaming manhole is ever an idea... was that ever something else? I mean I picture a manhole cover firmly implanted on the street with steam rising up... how is that an idea for a mascot?

Hmmm?

I always ask people in the construction trade if they've ever actually gotten something done on time and at the budget they originally proposed...

did you get paid for the work you did or get a recommendation from the client for more work?

I'm not sure, tbh, I'd just cut my losses, not sure if we're sending him a bill, but that isn't my choice, I only had 8 hours, my dad and brother worked all last week. We usually work exclusively for companies rather than individuals so we don't put much thought to recommendations from one welder with a coke addiction.
