I am kind of uptight with TV that way too, but I was forced to understand the world at a very early age, & it made me kind of.... cold? idk... I don't think letting kids innocence get away from them at an early age is good... at all... I digress... ... then with ff11 I didn't have to worry about the issue at all (it's cartoony, you know) & for battlefield or other questionable games I'd just wait until bedtime. nowadays, with one bordering on being a damn teen, I realize how my mind was working @ that age & sheltering her from that stuff is just silly. so now the trick with the eldest is just to put everything into context, which, she handles really well. I have instilled a great respect for life in them, which I believe to be a fundamental tenant of existence, maybe too well, as my middle child is sketchy about eating meat, but with that grounding, there's really not much of a chance to blur the lines between fantasy & reality. the older one plays some of the teeny hack n' slash ones, & I see no inherent problem. In the end it all boils down to what we all already knew, video games are only another media that should be pre-screened by a parent, treated as fantasy, & no one needs to get their panties in a bunch. (but yes, if I'm slacking in screening what I'm doing in front of them, or visa-versa, the wife and I help one another out)

While watching my nephew, who is six now, he was thumbing through our DVR and popped on TWD. I panicked a little, and immediately told him that this was not for him. Apparently, my ex-sister-in-law let's him watch it. I find that a little unsettling for that age.
