I honestly don't understand the whole "I know nothing about computers and I am not willing to learn" attitude. So many problems can be solved simply by LOOKING at it and/or reading the message on the screen. Also, those error messages pop up for a reason. Don't close it and tell me "A message popped up on the screen, but I didn't read it and just closed it." Helps me none! /mini rant Why would we need tech guys then?
Edit: IT guys get paid so that others don't have to do that stuff... Also, it prevents people from trying to fix problems on their own and breaking it further... I know here at work we're not supposed to do anything for fear that we will make it worse... you just call helpdesk and they're supposed to fix it... We have no onsite IT in this office either so its all remote. There is a difference between knowing to turn something on, knowing what the buttons on the keyboard do, and knowing how to operate your pc, and knowing how to actually fix it and how it works.
I'm not saying they should know the latter.

They don't have to know the former either... Whether you think they should or not lol...
Edit: there are also a whole host of IT guys that can't fix real problems either so yeah...

They don't need to know how to perform basic functions on a computer if they're using a computer? Well, that's completely logical!

Edit: there are also a whole host of IT guys that can't fix real problems either so yeah... That's like saying an equipment operator doesn't have to know how to turn a machine on and off, put it in forward or reverse, or how to operate it at all, because the guy in charge of fixing it knows how to.
I have literally had to hold people's hand to do their job, thus me doing it FOR them. Makes sense to pay them to watch me do it, no?
Yes, they SHOULD know how to operate the machine necessary to do their job.

If you have that big a problem with it though do something to fix it... Create a FAQ with answers so that they can check that before they come to you... go to your boss and see if you can work with people or do a quick 15 minute "class" to go over some basics... Don't know how big your office is or if that's viable though...

It's more the issue of they don't listen because they don't want to learn.
Thus back to my original point! lol

Yes, they SHOULD know how to operate the machine necessary to do their job. You've actually gone to someone's PC and hit the power button? I can't imagine the Num lock problem happens more than once unless you don't tell them what you did to fix the issue...
If their job requires them to use a PC they should know how to use it to fulfill their required role... So for most that means how to type and punch in info... some don't realize what the num lock key is and how it works... so yes they will need you to come and tell them...
I don't see how any of the issues you brought up require you to do the persons job for them though...
If that's what they want you to do then yeah it makes sense lol... if not then no...

Type and punch in info, you say? Most likely numbers and such? Which should mean that at the point they know what a numlock key does, correct?
There are a ton of people who refuse to learn, yet use them on a daily basis. Which was more what he was talking about. :o

Have you ever had anyone come back to you multiple times with the Num lock problem? Have you ever had to just hit the power button to turn someones computer on?

Obviously I haven't posted every issue I've had to fix lol. I literally have had to walk people through doing their job... multiple times.
I have had to turn on monitors, printers, computers, and plug in mice.
Fair enough about num lock, I suppose if they don't press it they don't know what it does.
Anyway: Short week, who's excited? :P

Anyway: Short week, who's excited? :P The few things you did mention though seem more like one time things... I mean I've helped people here sometimes but you never really hear from them again after that one time... if people don't know how to turn on their computer then that is a problem... usually that just tends to be where someone knocks a cord loose and didn't realize... usually that's another one time thing though cuz they know to look for it then...
Not being able to do their jobs is another thing... that's either a fialure at training in the first place or they shouldn't be doing the work lol.. if its just a problem that prevents them from doing it atm shouldn't be a big deal...

Dear lord, if you want to get into specific issues, no that has not been a multiple case issue.
Doesn't mean other basic stuff is not addressed. The point is that I shouldn't have to drop whatever I'm doing to do something silly because they feel like they don't have to know anything that is going on is all.

Since we all can't be on the same linkshell in game, this can be our cross server linkshell thread.
Like most linkshells, it can be pretty dead at times. Other times it's full of intense conversations about either rl, gear, goals, pokemon or anything else you want to contribute.
We can cover any sort of topic at all, within reason of the forum rules. No real main topic, just a bunch of FFXIAH friends/people coming on and discussing random things.

Update: Sorry Eternaltriumph, too much has changed D: (Page 698)
Eternaltriumph said: Yeah Chuu. Bringing you up to speed, Ludoggy is the LS pedophile. I'm the fountain of random and useless knowledge that makes you go "Hrm" with the occasional side of "holy shit he said what?"
Kungfu is the LS nutjob, spouting super random things that are usually sexist, until Savvy or Alyria comes into the room. Then he's a classic case of sexual harrassment. Rumaha is also true to the second part; we're wondering about his sexuality though.
Daj is Ludoggy's gay lover. Not much else is known about this Asuran. Tairo is kinda new, but since is a female and Alyria's lesbian lover, she fit right in real quick.
Celene(F) and Rowland(M) are more of the shyer members, but often say things that are witty, have a good pun and sometimes cause three page discussions. Celene hates when people hit on her. It doesn't stop them from trying.
Krizz is just social and likes to kill time here during work Tbest is about the same, except tends to be a douche to guys and affectionate toward girls.
Alyria is the most social female, gets groped a lot without provoking it by others, and Tairo ends up stabbing people for it. Cai is just a barrel of lols, I might be gay for him. If I wasn't straight.
Not sure about Citag, s/he's new. Kiriyu is just an in-out kinda person. Says one thing every three days that every guy makes a big fuss over. Ludoggy gets really defensive since she's asian and underage (might be 18 now).
Artem is the wayward soul that makes you ponder the meaning of life by constantly reminding us life can suck. But he deals, and so do we. About the same for Savannah, except people are more "AWH!" to her because of a vagina involved.
Dasva is the ex military man (as is Krizz but this doesn't apply to him) who hates the world and plots a way to destroy most of it.
Number2 is kinda like a mix between Cai and I; never bashes, likes to laugh and has odd avatars. His current suits a lot of the convos this LS gets into. Barti is most well known for his moustache. He gives mousatche rides for a fee. I'm missing a few people but whatever. CARRY ON!
Luelle Smells.
