I'm just chiming in. I think it's interesting when we talk about how we really feel and why we feel that way. A little friendly arguing never hurt.
Do you honestly think Row thinks of his g/f as property though? Do you really think that he in any way thinks he needs to what pass ownership from her father to him?
subconsciously, yes as that is what the feeling/tradition derives from...

Traditions change over the years. Just because it USED to be the man literally asking for his betrothed's hand in marriage, doesn't mean its still that way. Some people like to keep tradition going and be respectful of others.

Well breeding is never cheap

I could make a witty comment about certain sections of America, or better yet third world countries, but I'm going to refrain.
:D

They're going to work their *** off in the books I'll tell you, cuz they're going to college. Hopefully by the time they're 15.

It's still derived from that, which is why it's still messed up. Also traditions don't often change, and if they do it's barely, hence the conversation.

Also tradition or not it's still silly. Why should it not be ridiculed just because it's "tradition"?

I see it as a good will gesture towards their family, y'know, since you're becoming a part of it. Sign of respect and all. Depending on the girl, I'd do it too.

Oh just the usual banter about whether or not women are objects. Silly discussing known facts. If they would just stay in the kitchen, this sort of thinking wouldn't happen!

How'd the test go?

It's Calc 1. I just can't seem to remember all the ***I'm supposed to do and it annoys the *** out of me. >.< Trig functions? Fine, I can handle that. But remembering when to derive and how to derive it is taking its toll on me. I blame chemistry for already having a multitude of equations I'm supposed to remember. >.>;

yeah I don't know how to derive, haven't gotten there yet, and the trig identities will kill me.

I take calc1 and 2 this fall and spring if I continue with this current path.

The only thing I hated about calc and math classes in general is that what was generally on the test was far more advanced than what you did in class or on the HW. Always had to go beyond that it seemed.

This is essentially the same as it is in my class. We, the students, actually broke down the difficulty.

In class problems: Stupidly easy.

HW Problems: About "Hard" difficulty. Definitely requires a lot more dedication to the problem than anything we were doing in class but still doable after hours of frustration.

Test Problems: OMG WTF IS THIS WE KNOW NOTHING OF THESE PROBLEMS! WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYY?!

I never experienced that...

at least not that I can recall, typically found tests to be easy short of 1-2 toughies.

HW: Johnny has 2 apples. He eats one. How many apples does he have?

Test: Johnny has 2 apples. He eats one. Calculate the effect this has on gravity of the earth on the sun if he burns calories at a rate of 20calories/minute idling, 100calories/minute running against the wind, and the apple would have fallen at a force of 30 N/s.
