Actually the picture is from the dwarves that are another selectable character on the same game the journalist was criticizing. A tongue in cheek joke which was interpreted as a homophobic insult.

Actually it's not that uncommon of a position. I know that GI has published a number of articles over the past couple of years discussing issues in sexuality in the gaming industry. They range from hyper sexualization of characters, to a dearth of female leads, to the boys club that the gaming industry is. It's not a problem to ask for change and to make constructive criticism of the industry.
What is a problem is trying to sum all the nuances of the industry wide issue in 4 vague sentences aimed at a specific game. Schreier was right to apologize, because he did a horribly unprofessional job of expressing himself the first time around. I did a little more digging into this and Kotaku has got something out for this game. There are a load more articles criticizing it than just what leo posted. Silly Kotaku.
The art design is crude and weak. Kotaku isn't journalism.
Odin sphere was a fantastic game in both design (art and story) and game play.

Vanillaware games are niche games. As usual for anything that is or was at any point related to Atlus.
But that's not a reason to come up and call it "Crude and weak". Someone can come, look the designs and say "ew". Without seeing how the games are animated (I mean, the characters on Vanillaware games actually do breathe) you're being quite unfair.

The game looks fantastic but all I see lately is "oh no too much boobs". We have games like Dead or Alive out there which are just there for that but no Dragon Crown gets all this crap. This will be a day one buy for me since I've always loved Vanillaware/Atlus games but it sucks that articles like this hurt sales. I find it ironic that Jason Schreier writes that he feels embarrassed to be seen playing a game with the Sorceress but called Kamitani a 14 year old :/.

Because boobs don't do that. If they had more realistic ones there wouldn't be a problem. As they are though, they're ridiculous.
Also  But all the characters proportions are exaggerated as well with the exception of the Wizard and archer. We're going to be playing a fantasy game so why the hell worry about what needs to look realistic. Just enjoy it for what it is not for how impossible it is for breast to do what they're doing in this game.

It's pretty easy to write articles and tape video documentaries bitching about tropes and sexuality in games.
 The only thing that will change an industry is potential profit. There aren't enough people that care to represent significant profit. But it's good to know SOMEONE reads that video game tabloid "Ko-watdafuk?"

If I assumed the pop-culture where I believe that name is derived from were an accurate representation of real life.... ALL women would be either a) built like an 8 year old, b) built like volkom's sexy, sexy avatars, c) a dickgirl. Also, all women secretly desire to be raped. They pretend not to want it at first, but literally any man can make any woman fall in love with him by forcing himself upon her. "shame on that guy for coming up with this new concept". Sex sells and will always sell.

I personally don't see a problem with him drawing his characters how he sees fits.
