In one of today's Cracked articles, Absolute Virtue took a top place as one of the biggest *** in online gaming. I'm sure many people remember the articles/news coverage the LS that attempted the 30h unsuccessful battle against AV got. Interestingly, most of the other *** were player-on-player or player-on-alliance moves, not developer-on-player.

Enjoy the read!

I sure do! Well enough to remember that they were fighting Pandemonium Warden anyway.

agreed, lol that was the funniest IGN news I ever saw and I remember back then when it was truely an impossible fight, PW was worse than AV back then, simply because you had to deal with all the ***it went through then once you were almost done, on the LAST BOSS... spam astral flow with every single avatar that made you're whole linkshell OMG IT CAN"T DO THAT THAT"S CHEATING.

Lol, yeah..
"I never heard of that happening to AV, I thought that only happened to PW?"
Was what I thought while reading that article :P

http://www.ign.com/blogs/raynarxl/2008/08/14/final-fantasy-xi-18-hour-boss-fight-how-long-is-too-long

for memories sakes... but they did say in there

"Right now the members of Beyond the Limitation just wish Square-Enix to carefully consider their own warning that shows up before a user is able to log into the game.

Hopefully enough people will voice their opinions about these long battles that will make Square-Enix rethink their endgame monster design to include a battle that is still very challenging, but doesn't require you to spend almost an entire day to defeat."

reading that especially now makes me realise IGN DOES NOT know SE >.>

Wasn't only the belt AV can drop any good as well? I think that was the part that topped it all off perfectly.

Yeah, generally AV defeats were so demoralizing that LSs rarely wasted more than a normal event night on him (~4 hours). The fact that it was possible to slowly grind through PW's huge number of forms was really almost cruel.

AV's GKT, Belt, Chakram, and Mars's Ring were all very highly valued.

Yeah I was thinking with AV at least it's compleatly open about being a douch bag... PW would string players along like "Almost there, almost there, you can do it! LOLNO!"

Futsuno mitama was on par with or superior to Hagun/Amanomurakumo as far as I remember, Chakram was not displaced as a mage ranged until Abyssea, and Mars's Ring was the best in slot second melee ring until Abyssea too. Bellona and Minerva were both useful as well.

The saddest part of the Pandemonium Warden story is how much effort they put into it. He used to have 21 forms with unique UI. That's a huge amount of time and effort put into a single monster. Now he has 11 forms and 10 of them are <1 minute blitzes if you do it right.

Similar story with AV. Not only were all the mechanisms they added for him both unique at the time and very complicated, but they went almost entirely unused because they were implemented on a nigh-unbeatable monster. What a waste of effort.

The bad press and ineptitude of their implementation has sort of scared SE out of making more interesting fights like those, too, which is also a shame.

Ohh god damn that OP is a moron, mixing up AV and PW. I'm more surprised that PW wasn't mentioned but AV was... I think they may have mentioned him in a different article that I'll look for.

It's nice to know it's not other people screwing us over. SE is the best XI troll.
