So much luck plays into it. I used to be on lakshmi which was the last server to get its first defeat... yeah I think we got like triple lvl 8+ besieged right between NA and EU primetimes so there was like 200 peeps in besieged max. And it was like right after maintenance and still almost held out.

Not even the forces of poorly timed maintenance and Christmas can stop the awesomeness that is Siren >.>

1. We have such a fractured, piss-poor endgame community on Siren that most of our decently skilled players are in the vicinity of Al Zahbi with time on their hands when Besieged starts rather than sitting in Dragon's Aery, etc.

2. What JPs remain that still play the game on Siren generally tend to take Beseiged and keeping the bonuses of the Astral Candescence seriously enough to piss off those who think only of themselves and are trying to skillup or get free easy XP by cure bombing on a lowbie job.

3. Lagging and connections have little to do with it. Siren probably ranks in the top 3 servers overall in terms of Besieged participation.

4. As far as I know, Siren was one of the servers added to accomodate the NA release of the game, meaning it debuted a few months before FFXI made it stateside.

That just made it sound like players on Siren are zombies.

I'm jealous, Fairy's been *** up lately, guess we lost the AC again the other day, like second or third time this month. We suck lol

The main factor of besieged is pure and simple. Numbers.

Now, I don't know if after a certain mark mobs get stronger, but I HAVE noticed that when there were 500 people, I would miss a lot more than when there were 250. Maybe it's just my imagination. Also, with a shitload of people, the generals won't spawn for mages. Meaning they get wtfpwned without any curers. Also, undead swarm + 700 people = ***dies.

Ever see how fast 50 people charmed will eat any and everything?

Never saw a charm of that magnitude...but did see the huge bomb thing self destruct and kill like the entire main room once. I've never seen so many people die at one time before in my life lol

It's epic to flash the main mob, sentinel then invincible or perfect dodge while they all wail on you. >.> Gives everyone there big lol's, or huge e-peen downs if they're super DD hitting for 0.

Gotta be pretty funny watching how fast someone dies after it wears off, too lol

You can also run away if you are a mage...each time you take a corner, you lose a few pursuers. This strategy also assumes that people are courteous enough to put e-peen aside long enough to take off movement+ items.

Enthusiasm also has a lot to do with an undefeated record: A server that has people who enjoy and want to do Beseiged will naturally have a better record.

What's funny is... I've been in besieges where it was back to back and at odd hour of the day... around maybe 250 people in the fight... and still managed to win

I think i'd chalk it up to enthusiastic players.
If the besieged is under-manned... there's usually people actually SHOUTING to get players in there.

Yes, but I believe it caps out at some point, so don't think we're getting a gazillion exp per kill out here

Here on Garuda, we're lucky if 100 people show up for Besieged. No one cares because it's a useless event. You get some IS and a small amount of exp for the hour of effort.

In closing, who gives a ***?

You get increased xp with Sanction while the AC is in Al Zahbi, as well as the Refresh/Regen options. You can 'also' port out to the different staging points. >.> Useless event?

And don't forget about the chocobo lady!! Choco kidnapping sux...

But is it worth the effort? At low lvls easy to maintain and easy to get back.

Exactly Dasva. We lose it and it's back within the hour. It's a great accomplishment to some, but the event isn't worth my time. The only way I usually do it is if it's been going on for 45 minutes and I'm in whitegate. I'll jump in and get max exp for 10 minutes of effort and be on my way.

I'd say I do.

I mean seriously... maybe I depend too hard on them... but how the hell does anyone get anywhere fast if the AC is taken and runics are shut down?
