Anyone else think that this game isn't going to get the overall positive reaction from the ffxi fanbase that SE thinks its going to get?

Well im probably going to try this out on PC first and if its really good will buy a playstation for my bro to play with me but thats a BIG if lol...

PS3 exclusivity doesn't bother me. Developers are trying to kill off PC gaming anyway. Too much piracy and cheating to monitor. Atleast on their systems they can monitor easier.

I was surprised ffxi even came to 360 given that playonline IS sony, but if that can happen, maybe this could go to the 360 also.

Despite my feelings about PC gaming, They may go that way if enough people clammer for it

Well in the statement he made he said it was the only "Console" FF14 was going to be on, still leaves room for PC.

and no this wont be an end to FFXI.

SE, as dumb as people think, are still smart when it comes to business, and as long as there is a player base for FFXI there will be servers running FFXI. The only thing that will happen is no more expansions like WoTG CoP yada yada yada.

It's nice playing FFXI in bed on my laptop, if I do get FF14, I really hope they do bring it to PC.

Yeah, it would be nice. I can't imagine playing FFXI on anything else... And would prefer to play 14 on PC if it's similar.

As precedence, EQ still cranks out expansions like wildfire, EQ2 didn't kill that.

SE did say as long as they had a playerbase, they'd keep supporting it with new content.

I cant wait for this game, its gona be a worldwide realease which is good since JPs wont have like a 1 year advantage(like ffxi >.>).

I forsee these events....

Ps3 release 1st,
gets about 200-500k players playing 30 day free trial,
afterwards those who dont like it leave, leaving about 100-300k,
few months later they release news for a PC version,
7 months later release Pc evrsion get maybe 200k subs,
months later they plan for an xbox 360 beta....

Nice find, if you click on information on that site, it confirms it'll be released for Windows as well as PS3.

And people were kinda thinking hmmm why do a Add on like this instead of a patch for the amount of content they added in it, and this is exactly why. If people bought it in large numbers then they would continue to make more this way instead of a full blow disc expansion.

They also are going this route to see what the market is on FFXI still, since its a safe bet that FF14 was just about ready at the time they announced the add ons for FFXI since its getting released next year.

Also peoples biggest complaint about FFXI for as long as I remember has been Botting and third party tools, and as much as people say they have not, they have done stuff to try and curb that aspect of the game but little to no avail. What better way then make it PS3 only if they go that route.

And with only on One platform think of the less Limitaions they will have since they wont have to interface with 3 at once like FFXI is, thus perhaps providing smaller service but over all better service.

Or it could just totally suck and everyone goes home pissed off.

Well, think of it as a test.
Seeing Ps3 is the most popular (from what I've heard) console over in Japan, that will have a great playerbase to release it. Once stuff gets on the ball, they (SE) can observe. If things are really working out, then boom, expand it to other platforms. If it's a bust, then just close it down. More platforms = more production, would suck to waste all that money if it does go down the drain. This is in -Japan-'s favor we are talking about, not NA/EU's favor.
