Was there a release date on this?
Keep in mind that the PS3 is still the leading console in Japan, and it is infinitely easier to develop a game for console and later port it to PC than the other way around.
SE also has a long-term domestic relationship with Sony (also a JP company) that probably makes it cheaper and easier to do initial development and distribution with them, rather than with Microsoft. It makes sense for SE to target the initial release for the PS3 and branch out later, exactly the same way they did FFXI. However, I doubt they will repeat the mistake of releasing it only in Japan for some period of time before suddenly opening it up internationally. They lost over half their subscribers when they did that with no warning or advertisement a year or two after FFXI's release. its a good business decision to say it will be ps3 only at start...now ps3 gonna get some nice sales..cuz i know im buying one now

Maybe they're going to seperate console and PC users this time around...avoid the hardware limitations that they face with PS2/360 this time around. Too much investment into their ffxi character to dump it and start over. Or just 0 desire (like me) to start a new MMO and put the time I put into ffxi into something else. The galka in the video has no tail... but looks like it has the exact same face as one of our current galka.

If SE will keep the servers up for it O.o? Yeah, SE has done some silly things, but I doubt they would just up and gank FFXI in lieu of a new, untested MMO. ESPECIALLY if it's PS3 exclusive...that's eliminating a LOT of revenue streams right off the bat. And besides, as long as there are enough people playing FFXI to populate 1 server (5000ish), I think FFXI will be running. They'll just merge low population servers down as need be.
