The Pirates' Lair: A Guide to Corsair
By Afania 2013-05-13 10:34:35
Help me on this: for cor/dnc I am wondering if Mextli harness could be ideal(dw 3%). Does the increase on the party's dps(crit rate+3% during tp phase) outweight the slight increase in the cor dps using Thaumas body?
Something like
Manibozho/Asperity/Dudgeon/Heartseeker
Mextli/Thurandaut/Epona/Rajas
Letalis/Twilight/Manibozho/Manibozho
thoughts? I'm parsing about 67% acc on ceizak delve fodder which is about 10% lower accuracy than the DD in my party im supporting when I do cor/dnc. thats with 40acc from gear and eating sushi on cor/dnc.
The DD have been fine tuning their gear and havent been able to go higher than 80% avg on fodder farms because the super evasion boosts kick in and screw everyone over the length of the whole run.
I'd avoid plasm farm in Ceizak, I hate that zone ._.
Just realized COR has pretty good melee option this update, it can use both delve sword and dagger and both only cost 30k each. Many other 1h melee would have harder time to obtain 2nd 1h SoA top tier weapons.
Unless you have the gil to toss on Midrium bullets(which isn't worth it), I don't see how /ra would ever come close to use both D104 and D91 melee weapons.

Took me hours of work to get someone to craft a stack for me, and I don't want to shoot them even on NMs ._. I only use them for QD now, but I don't want to go through the pain to craft another stack every 2 days I want to play COR ._.

160 from gear is a max, a bit unrealistic to find that new necklace and khepri boots, but otherwise I am getting closer to that set. Differences at the moment are: nq rings, arctier's torque (had to sell a pcc at one point years ago, never bothered buying it back), praeda sabotons, and impulse belt (can't find anyone to do meebles with), so only a couple things can even be upgraded.
But you are right... +130 is too low. Way too low. Really need a lot more racc options to even be comfortable on some things, let alone not still be floored for others. I can fully understand how some cors just aren't bothering to shoot: it's damn hard to support it for some things. I think it was that raptor NM in morimar that near floored my racc with sushi and hunter's. Damn painful, but even spitting in the wind, qd, and wf still get me around 5-6% contribution on that thing.
Did two ceizak delves after I posted, got around 75-77% racc (cor/sch) using sushi, hunter's, and gear. Most of the melee were around that in acc terms as well, though they had brd and cor (I was in tank pt, no brd). It was just a farming pug, no NMs, so wildfire dmg was quite good and enough to push me into ~11% total dmg range (I shot 140-170 times, wf 50-60 times, per run). Haven't been in a group that successfully killed an NM in there yet.
Was thinking of sitting on points until wildfire can be unlocked and used without emp/coin gun. I could potentially use LS in ceizak, but I'd need to have a brd to have any ratt+. Will be getting that surefire arq eventually unless a better gun comes out before then.

I'll say it again: don't shoot for plasma farming. Make a melee set and use that+ws of your choice.

BTW if you are going for wildfire I would never sub SCH imo. /sch gets you firestorm but sch does not innately get the MAB trait, so you lose out a lot by not subbing rdm or blm. I don't think firestorm makes up for that. Well it is a 10% boost but....... it becomes 20 mab(24 if blm sub) vs. 10% firstorm multiplier. This point is even more important if you have a sch or whm(who should be subbed sch) in your pt.
The problem with making a a melee set and using wildfire is that you lose chatoyant's innate affinity and bonus AND iridiance(spelling?). To be honest acc is not that bad with pot au feu and hunters roll. Just don't shoot when they get the evasion buff in ceizack when fighting fodders.
Edit: /facepalm I forgot about the iridance bonus from chatoyant with storm. So I see now why /sch is viable, however i still would make a mage in my pt sub sch >.>.

I blew thru a stack of midrium that I came across for 250k and its not worth the cost/rarity except for QD ammo right now. I almost ran completely out of the bullets not paying attention testing Last Stand with them >.<;
Delve sword for tp phase with sufficient acc is better than tp shooting on NMs imo , and 1500-2k requiescats are nothing to sneeze for ws options when some NMs like to resist wildfire.
Speaking of ammo i'd kill for a sleep bullet to be added to the game for cor. Delve bow on my ranger with sleep arrows lets me solo alot of the random adoulin monsters like twitheryms. Even with the power jump in gear and weapons, a cor trying to solo anything in adoulin is asking to die.

I realized when I was in COR doing Delve when it first came out that everyone would benefit more if I pulled and did buffs than just sitting around shooting bullets. Using Armageddon I would fire 2 shots before the DDs killed the mob...
I considered going melee mode but honestly, being an effective puller still beats a COR meleeing (imho).
So I ditched Armageddon, got that 150 delay gun from Abyssea (forgot the name) that you used to skill up, and went pulling.
Party almost couldn't keep up with mobs with both COR and BRD pulling, which is good. I suggest /RDM for pulling, since Phalanx/Convert/Refresh. But if you got a really bad healer /WHM sometimes can benefit YOU and your party more.

Not shooting has nothing to do with bad acc, you just do more dmg with melee weapons+marches in this game in most situations, especially now that your melee dmg went up and /ra dmg still stuck at pre-SoA due to lack of better bullets on AH......Your melee DPS can easily make up the WF dmg boost from a staff.....especially when you're swinging weapons with DMG of a GKT pre-SoA.
/ra with a staff is only worth it if:
1. You're doing 5k WF and every other physical WS doing 2k, so you need a staff for bigger WFs.
2. If mob AoE is raping you really, really bad.
3. Your melee weapon is doing 0 dmg and you need higher QD dmg.

I usually don't bother the mages in the pt with it, but most of the ones I've pt'd with aren't /sch anyway. I seem to also hardly ever be in a pt with a brd; the time I wrote before with the pieste was the first one, so getting songs is rare.
And I had 140 racc, just made a set on here to tabulate it better.
Make a melee set and use that+ws of your choice. I have no room for a melee and req set! Something would have to give, and it would be the racc set if I were to go full melee. Or shuffle junk out of satchel/etc. But it is something I'll build for eventually.
About the only thing cor can reliably solo are the umbrils, and that's if you're waiting on tp before hand. You can solo the IT ones with two wildfires (first wf gets 70-80% of its hp; can one-shot the ones in skirmish). You can be scrambling for shots/qd getting the second ws, it dies before hitting you 2-4 times (/sch for blink/stoneskin/firestorm helps) or just wf, light shot, wait, wf.

We use a runefencer and a rdm in our ls pull to nonstop that serve double duty as NM holder (run) + sleeper/refresher (rdm) on our crazy pulls.
If you bring a corsair its better to have them focus on riding double 11s for the dd party and helping do damage+ and backup add control with lightshot.
Standard pulls for a 6k+ plasm run are 2-5 monsters at a time which can eat a corsair alive unless your bard is on the ball with horde lullaby when you bring the pull in nicely clustered up.
Anyone with 12-18% movement speed can pull, but I dont pull on my cor unless one of the pullers dies, and stop once they unweaken.

You have DNC THF at lv 99, so you should already have most, if not all the melee set if it's geared. Put ra precast/TP set in MH if you're going to melee XD
You don't have to use req, and I don't think it's worth using if you don't have enough attk/acc.

It's a space issue, though I don't have a req set yet. I'm usually 70+/80 with normal cor gear (and that's pretty slim as is) and can squeeze a few more spots if I ditch RR items.
But you're right, I at least have all the tp gear and would just not use racc set in this case. Will need to get better sword/dagger though... so many changes.
But I want to shoot! Shooooot pewpew :(

I used to be around 75/80 with a lot of sets, but with SoA you only need melee set, QD and Ws set be it a melee or ranged Ws of your choice. Store the ranged ATK set.
For me, I do cor/dnc with new dagger and mab dagger, QD and WF for farming runs. Could change the weapons and ws i guess. Havent played with it much.
For boss runs, -DT set, QD set, Last stand set which is mostly r acc gears anyway, so I can shoot some when I feel like it, though with swapping between parties which makes me miss preludes and can't keep hunter on myself for long, resulting a below 50% r acc. It's just too damn depressing to even shoot. The 75% r acc I posted on the other page was when I didn't have to swap and had preludes.

Does the +1 Dia effect only apply if you land Light Shot? I mean, how about the NMs that make your light shot basically forced miss, can they not get the added effect on them?

I was playing around with melee cor some more in delve, I think I would probably aim to keep the rancor collar and navarch +2 hands in my tp set for plasm farming runs since i'm getting a 22% critrate on fodder right now with those on.
Capping on acc in morimar isn't too hard with sushi, and delve sword crits are 225-270 damage, so tp shooting just feels like an absolute joke when you get so many crits and get streaks while double/triple/quad attacking with appropriate gear.
My short term goal dream tp set where I could eat rcb's instead of sushi and keep critting 20%+ of the time would be something weird like this:
ItemSet 300964

Box stepping with /dnc is pretty reliable now when you take care of acc issues and counters stuff like bugard def boost in morimar if darkshot is down or if you need to saveup light shots to help the pullers bringing in more monsters.
Violent flourish stuns somewhat reliably (not as much as im used to on dnc main) so I use that on the current target when the morimar 'dreadful energy' monster ATK boost appears to help minimize the near 1-shotting that can happen on the heavy DD.

All new crafted weapons require stupid things like delve Naakual mats. For now, just ignore Donderbuss existance and work on a Surefire Arquebus. I recommend path B since cor needs all the ranged accuracy it can get.
