Could use a Chaos Rapier as your melee weapon. Hit's decently hard and fast. Biggest backstab/riposte damage in the game.
Well, PC version aside. One of the weapons has a 160 Crit modifier and an S rating in DEX.
If you go with the chaos BBoP, make sure you use Fire Arrows. I don't understand the mechanics entirely, but it's the same reason use Lightning Bolts with a Lightning Avelyn.
I don't know the math behind it. But most/all thrusting weapons appear to have a hidden defense ignoring property.
Add that to Rapier's higher base damage (30% stonger than a Bandit's Knife) and the 110 Critical Modifier pushes it above the Bandit's Knife in back stab and riposte damage.
And that's exactly why the fire arrows weren't very good. It caused an unnecessary damage split so you were working through two sets of resistances. And because of how low the arrows damage was, the fire was probably almost entirely eliminated. :|
"2 and a half hours til I need to go to work...I can kill the final boss in that time right?"
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
I got so excited I was at the final boss....technically he shouldn't be that hard..he should be completely defeatable...except me!
also, I just now decided to learn to parry/riposte...I suck so baaaad at this.
this game is like a horrible book that you want to get through because everybody else has read it and you want to have read it too but you cant wait for it to be over so you can get on with your life.
Im so ready to be done and I cant kill the stupid boss and the stupid path to the stupid boss is so ridiculously long and I actually managed to get the bosses life down to a small sliver of health and then he killed me because he picks me up and throws me and that throws off my groove and I cant ever refind my footing when that happens and I just suck and I have to go to woooo-ooooork T_T
The final boss was kinda hard for me too the first time. I went in with the heaviest, most defensive armor I had, and slapped on the stoneskin effect from pyro, and just whacked away at him.
Opening the door in Darkroot Garden with that 20,000 soul crest was probably the best choice ever, unless it was mandatory, I don't know. I love it either way :D
That is one of the best early farming places for souls. Especially if you just train the human and ghost mobs back to the first wall, and just let them run off the ledge. You can farm up about 7-10k souls in 3-5 min. Go to bonfire, repeat. loool
The videos online miss one important step. Instead of just running to the right, its best to run up the stairs about half way, fall down to the right, then keep running towards the wall, keep on running, none of this hold your shield out junk. The NPCs will simply think they need to chase you and keep running and fall over the edge.
Okay so I just killed the gaping dragon dude in the lower depths... he was supposedly going to drop a key to my next path but the only thing I got was his big tail axe...
So I ran around for like 90 minutes, couldn't find anything on where to go or what to do. The only thing I have read is that the big dragon dude I just killed was supposed to drop some damned key that he didn't and now I'm just totally stuck.
This happen to anyone else or am I just missing something?
Should have dropped the Blighttown Key. Maybe you missed it by pressing the confirm button too quickly or something?
There's a section in your inventory that all your keys are shown in. If it's not there, then you glitched I guess. You can also always try quitting and returning to the game.

Yeah not in my inventory. Maybe it glitched because right as he died my pyromancy flame broke and that conformation came up instead of the key?
=/ Tried looking around to see if it dropped to no avail, tried reloading and it is just an empty room now.
Are you on the PC version? Cause I've never heard of this happening. :<
I got it for 360 when it first came out and then got side tracked shortly before where I am now... and instead of getting it for PC I figured I might wanna beat it on 360 first.
D: I really can't figure out what to do, and definitely no key to be found and I didn't pick the master key as my gift. ~.~ Looking like I may just start over.

What class/build are you using Daus?
I posted my armors previously. I go the light armor route with a lightening halberd+queelags fury sword...and Im a hunter class which doesnt mean what I thought it would at the beginning of the game :( I thought I could go all skyrim snipery with bows/arrows and that didn't work.
Ive been using the stoneskin effect but as soon as he tosses me I lose it and I cant dodge out of his grasp very well being that heavy >.> I usually die around then. My wacking away isn't doing as much as I thought it would...Ive been running in stoneskin and then parrying his attacks. Which is how I almost killed him. The very first time I did it I tried the defensive-running-away-while-target-locked-and-occassionally-jabbing-once-then-heal-behind-the-big-rock and that got me killed..but slowly after I ran out of estus.
I was in Tomb of the Giants when I got invaded. I never really won a pvp battle yet, always end up losing somehow or w/e invaded me was really weak and didn't know what they were doing.
It was past the 2nd bonfire when I encountered them, and dropped down to the platform where the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring is. I used the Dragon Slayer Bow to shoot at them, while they wasted humanity healing. I'm sure they didn't know how to get to where I was I guess. Anyways, after about 3-4 minutes of shooting him and him running around evading my arrows, I slipped behind falling down to a platform below me, where I saw him shooting arrows at my general location before I fell. I snuck up behind him and back stabbed him, which felt really good, but I actually managed to successfully execute a 2nd back stab the moment he started getting up. That was enough to kill my invader, and it felt damn good to have defended my souls and humanity when every time before I have lost to a real fight.

what D: bows are awesome in this game
It's crazy challenging though :x
I use my dragonbow a whole lot but I dont do good when things are chasing after me. I have otherbows that don't have to rest on the ground also but I just cant coordinate well..
Since I had to restart from my pyromancer earlier I went with ranger.
I've actually been having a blast going pew pew at stuff. I know I'm going to regret saying this, but this game is a lot easier then I remember. I plowed through everything without dying and annihilated the gargoyles, tore the gaping dragon apart and am about to do blight town in like... 4 hours play time?
Edit: Is the Prepair to Die edition actually any more difficult, or is it just a straight up port with DLC added?
The game isn't that difficult really, I don't understand why people say it is one of the hardest games of all time. I don't think it comes close, but it sure is fun to play.
and it's just a DLC included with the game to help sell it, nothing is harder really unless the bosses that come with it are.
I'd say the difficulty of the game is the ridiculously steep learning curve. While I was learning the mechanics, Dark Souls was, by far, the most difficult game I've ever played. After you've beaten it, or just cleared a section of the game, the difficulty drops drastically.
Forget using the light armor if you plan to stoneskin, it maxes out your weight. Just slap on the thickets set of gear, a regen shield, and 2 hand your strongest weapon. Slap on a couple of bad *** rings, like steel defense and poise ring and you should be just fine.
A few flasks, and a recast of stoneskin later, and you should win.

Anyone tried sorcery?
I've been playing for a while and my INT is something like 80+, it's hugely satisfying killing anything instantly with homing projectiles.

It depends, if you played Demon's soul you know that Magic/Bows = easy mode. Also, once you memorize the attack pattern of every monster/bosses both games are pretty easy.
First game clear as a melee only is quite tough, you will die a lot (Less if you played Demon's Soul before obviously)
Hardest part of the game for me, getting past those knights shooting spears with their bows in Anor Londo, must have died 30 times+ lol
I got through that part by only falling once. One of my biggest rages was Sens Fortress..just the whole thing..
