It may seem arbitrary, but there actually is an in-game constellation map that corresponds to it perfectly. Dark resistance boosts the power of DRK, particularly Souleater.

Straight melee killing an NM with the belief that weaponskills/magic/JA have a detrimental effect on drop rates. Use Steal on EVERYTHING because maybe, JUST MAYBE, there's some rare and obscure item that no one else has stolen yet. Also along this line... You can steal a Ridill from Fafnir. And last but not least. <insert item here> drops from Taisai.

Myth: People NEVER run through Ranguemont Pass, and they will NEVER kill any Taisai they run across.
After all, it's not like any badass NM spawns after Taisai are left alone for three days, nope.

Opening the voidwatch chest naked = better drops.
I still get nothing but LOGS LOGS LOGS! Mentor status has always been one of mine. We also used to remove our pearls in Dynamis-Xarcabard back in the day.
But by far my favorite was kill it with Freeze I. I always tried on every NM and I would still swear up and down about its powers. Oh I forgot one. Tachi: Koki. Bacon-fueled SAM TH!
