Stupid question I know but it always got me curious.
Why is Chocobo movement speed coded in a different way from players' movement speed?
Chocobo default speed is coded at "-20%" but corresponds more or less to players movement speed "60%" (which is the maximum you can achieve).

What reason could they had to use two different means to handle movement speed on Chocobo and Players?


Only thing that I can think of is that many, many, many years ago players default movement speed was doubled, and afaik the Chocobo one stayed the same during that very old patch.

The different multiplier means chocobo base speed is different than player base speed. This was true before player speed increase too.

Chocobos you raise can have different speeds than the stock kind, so this makes sense.

Afaik mount status sets your technical movement speed to 100% on a rental chocobo but sets your effective movement speed in game to 160% (same as flee). If you use something to modify your technical movement speed above 100% while mounted, you move faster than 160% (not sure if additive or multiplicative).
