It's also possible Tsuneo that they aren't done with trials (ToM update is still under the "In Development" forum section). If they were to combine them, it wouldn't be until they are 100% done I would think.

I just don't see how they could continue with the trials though.
That's what I was thinking about too. What if they wanted to keep upgrading the ToM staves, but you already had combined your staves into one staff. I guess you would be ***out of luck.

There was a long stretch of trials that were only level 75, I could see the same for level 99.

My problem I have with that theory is... what about those stupid relic aura's?

How do they continue with that? Is it going to be ridiculous trials for NQ level 99 relic and then super easy for HQ level 99 relic?

I just don't see how they could possibly continue, it seems like the end with that update.

I was thinking about a combined staff. If they let you combine the staff now and added more trials later for the individual staves, why couldn't just make the requirement for the upgraded combined staff the items it would take to upgrade each staff separately.

No it doesn't, magian staves are more powerful!

I'd be happy if they simply gave individual names per elemental magian staff rather than manually swapping it out with each nuke/cast.

But I suppose this prism thing is a good direction to take.

They did that last update :(

Each staff has a roman numeral at the end so you can macro between each option within the elemental family group.

Most likely Tanakafication of the upgrade/merge process:

Step 1) Acquire all 8 HQ elemental staves. No Augments or Signatures.

Step 2) Acquire all 8 HQ elemental gems and all 8 elemental stones.

Step 3) Go to Full Moon Fountain for a CS.

Step 4) Talk to a Magian Moogle who will come up with some stupid reason that you have to kill a set of 300 of such and such monsters with each element.

Step 5) The moogle will tell you to go to Full Moon Fountain.

Step 6) Go to Full Moon Fountain to come to the amazing realization that the moogle failed to impart upon you the simple facts that you cannot get the next cutscene unless it's a New Moon on Lightsday.

Step 7) After waiting for the planets to align, trade all 8 staves, then all 8 gems, then all 8 stones to the BC entrance to trigger a battle against all of the avatars at once, whose stats and levels have been raised to be a challenge to level 99 players.

Step 8) Complete the fight. Upon success, you will receive a cutscene and your staff. Upon failure, you have to start again from step 1.

For your efforts you are given:

Prism Staff
DMG: 51 Delay: 356
STR+9 DEX+9 VIT+9 AGI+9 INT+9 MND+9 CHR+9
Cure Potency +10% MP Recovered While Healing +10
(Affinity: magic attack +2, magic accuracy +2, avatar perpetuation cost -3)
Lv.99 WAR/MNK/DRK/SAM

Sad part is, when we joke about things like this; they actually take into credible consideration for future development.
I'm only half kidding :/

I don't see why they couldn't make a ToM trial in which the objective is one of each of the ToM staves.

Late, but yeah I guess I worded that wrong. I meant that it's kind of a *** move to not let the people who put in all that extra effort to make better staves have a combined staff for inventory saving.

It looks like they took a lemon italian ice and moved it around in the sun to see what kind of rainbows they'd get, then they translated that onto an Apollo's Staff using a shitty Photoshop filter.

Nvm, that would be way too colorful.

It probably has an aura as well, I don't think model viewers can display or detect if weapons/armor have one or not.

Just my guess.

Sure hope so. :c You almost get more of a rainbow effect from in-game lighting on a Light Staff compared to that.

-NECRO BUMP DETECTED!-

...but it's for a good cause!

I just got the latest look at the stats on the Prism Staff (name pending)!

【HQ stats】
D45 Delay 356
STR+5 DEX+5 VIT+5 AGI+5 INT+5 MND+5 CHR+5
All elemental resistances+20 Cure potency+10% Healing MP+10
Iridescence (※1)
Magic attack bonus, magic accuracy bonus, and avatar perpetuation cost-3 for each element (※2)
Lv.61~

※1 This is the name of an original effect for the Prism Staff, which makes this staff strongly affected by weather.
※2 This is the hidden effect, though I guess it is not really "hidden." It is just not displayed.

We will continue to give updates on the progress as we find out!
