I think the soundtrack for FF XIII-2 (so far judging by the demo) is going in an absolutely awesome direction.
Yes I have been a fan of many FF soundtracks, they are all awesome in a different way and I think this techno-y soundtrack is fitting in really well with the direction the game is going.
The metal chocobo wasn't a sign of good faith on SE's part.
However, I had little to no protest over XIII's soundtrack for the most part, especially towards the climax of the game, the score became vast and grandiose which is exactly what I demand and expect from an FF title of any kind.
Hopefully XIII-2 retains various elements and qualities therein; but I can no longer hold my breath when it comes to general quality of FF titles anymore, storyline, gameplay, music or otherwise.
I agree, I wasn't too fond of that chocobo cover either. This sounds much better to me, if they wanted to metalize anything I think the chocobo song was the worst song to do so on.
Even though I more or less despised FFXIII as an FF game, it managed to keep a respectable score, and actually contains one of my favorite tracks to come from the franchise.
I agree with you like 98%. I loved FFXIII, while it wasn't a step back into the classic turn-based fighting styles that people loved so much, I still think XIII and XIII-2 are heading in awesome directions. And I also agree with the scores from XIII, they were great, many of them.
I personally loved this track from XIII, it's that soundtrack sound for exploring a new area, but just sounds so lovely. I am so pleased to see songs being made that both embrace the FF feel from like FF7 but without those polyphonic sounds (even though I love every song and can name every song from 7 >.>).

You like this shitty as horrible fail rapper skillz? lolol... if you like him then you will love him.....
I like the sounds for the music, not necessarily the rapper's skill level. It's an interesting fusion and I think works well with the fighting soundtrack.
I usually really hate like all rap, so for me to not hate this for possessing rap should say something xD
Edit: I clicked play on your video >.>; I wish I didn't. He makes Lil' Wayne seem talented.

It's horrid... absolutely horrid.... get rid of the "if you can call that rapping putting together 2 words that are simplistic and rhyme... ooh wait... isn't that always what they do?" and I'm fine with that song.
Sorry, but I can't stand that initial song you posted.
It sounds terribad. I really can't even begin to describe or explain why, my ears simply hurt too much. Sorry.
I'm going to remain open-minded to this soundtrack. I want to predict that this is just a boss battle theme, and may not even appear twice in the game. For the demo boss battle I think it fits well, but do think that the rap will be a huge turn off for many.
Edit: Haha wow, no love ;~; I did ask for input though so I can't complain. xD

Guessing you didn't play their demo they have out.... it's a battle theme. Atm they used it for a boss battle of sorts, but yeah. Either way I doubt it will be the last time they use it.

I did play the demo...my prediction still stands, if I remember correctly they used a few specific boss battle themes in XIII as well. I'm not so sure something like this song I posted will be reused so much.
I've always been skeptical and weary of vocals in any FF tracks aside from ending themes because for so many titles, Uematsu has had the virtue of letting the music speak for the situation itself. Without a single word spoken by character or singer alike, the tone and melody sweeps you off your feet or thrusts you into the gravity of whatever situation is going on. So for one to put in a relatively respectable music track and add vocal (terrible rapping no less) is rather alienating to the experience of immersion which previous titles did so well but recent ones have failed to deliver repeatedly.

IF this soundtrack is the direction the game is going then that direction is headfirst into a steaming pile of grade A horsecrap.

I can understand this completely. I can agree with vocals outside ending themes being pretty terrible. No one composed better than Nobou.
Are the vocals in my posted video what ruins it for people? Or does everyone just hate the fast-paced techno-y sound?

From 1:32 and on (-minus the singing...) I like this actually.
I hate to make such extreme and immeasurable examples, but to give a vague idea of how these changes process through my mind and in my eyes, the direction FF titles have been led down as of late with the Ezio costume DLC and over saturation of rap and electronica in what would otherwise should be classical in nature, it feels like this is one step below modernizing FF for the sake of mass demographs appealing to those that cannot fathom, let alone remotely measure and enjoy the elaborate beauty and involvement of what is Final Fantasy, and to have SE sell out by adding a Lady Gaga track or something of the like to bolster attention and increase sales.

Just listened to 1:32+ tried to tune out the lyrics and I do agree that second half sounds much more like XIII. I can understand why the lyrics turned so many people off right away, and the creativity in custom lyrics for the game and plot - utterly disgusting xD

I can tolerate the background music. I'm typically not a fan of the saturated techno genre used in the game, but it at least retains a justified and fitting placement based on the structure of the game. But the moment he opens his mouth, I just want to boycott the game now.
Edit: I can respect your opinion on the SE selling out comment. I'd like to think they were going in a more modern direction is why they called for the newer genre, but if they used their technology and updated sounds to recreate something like FF7 songs, I think they would be much more successful in keeping their old fanbase.

Meh I'm all for innovation on FF series.... I'm not gonna sit there with turn-based forever... I like the new battle system, but I feel the new upgrading system of skills... is *** HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE. I like some of the new music, I like the classical feel, but I want something newish too, like I said I thought the first 1:32 of that song was over done and not well put together but after that it's fine. My favorite FF will always be X. Though FF 7 is another fav of mine. I didn't care for 9, and 8 was good but I felt it was over-hyped imo. 6 I didn't play. 5 I didn't play. I played 2 and 4 though. lol hacked Ps1 disks...
There's a fine line between innovation and perversion.
If you really want an example, look at the Legend of Zelda franchise.
They've been able to more or less tell the same damned story and retain the same melodies for twenty five years, yet they have continuously reinvented themselves in unique and unprecedented ways to make outstanding and successful titles one after another, even on simple handheld platforms.

Feel free to like what you like. I am not trying to dissuade you from your own feelings and opinions. This is not the why Christians are good for this world thread >.> or any religious thread... for that matter. I'm just giving you my opinion on what I feel.
