Atomos is cool though, I don't see him being very useful though. He only did stat drains in the one bcnm.
Cait sith is a traditional summon in the series.

No such thing as a neutral element. It would have to be non elemental.

Traditional summon? It has been a summon in like 3 games. The rest its either a normal mob or some special character. The "why" pertains to this game, I just don't see why Cait Sith would become a summon instead of the alternatives.

No it hasn't, how bout reading the page you quoted? Two games where it was a summonable avatar, three if you count that card game.

Or you could accept there are varying opinions? Not everyone is gonna like the choices SE makes.

In case you missed the memo, it was speculation about the two avatars. I made one plug about Cait Sith and my dislike for it, the whole thread isn't intended to whine about it.

Not to mention, Bahamut and phoenix probably have more tradition to them than Cait sith, beggers can't be choosers ._.
Maybe next year bahamut :<

I was talking about game appearances in general. Quite frankly, it would been rather stupid to have someone like Bahamut to take its place.
Atomos is rather fitting as it looks like a dimensional portal to begin with.
Edit: Is there an update that are making these two people legit summons? I'm speaking out of their positions in the stories.

Phoenix
Too bad about Phoenix busy being dead. Expect her rebirth in the upcoming and non-existent Far East expansion where she'll be more relevant to the story.
Bahamut
Sure, the guy is a total ***, but I'm not buying into the original explanation of not wanting to downplay his role by making him a mere summon.
Odin and Alexander are at least twice as dangerous and influential (Odin being indirectly responsible for half the major conflict in this game) and look where that got them.

Ah I see, maybe you misread what I said then. I said it was a "summon" in three games. Anyway, I wonder what Atomos will do for 2hr anyway considering Diabolos (and Odin I think) do the whole Demi thing. Traditionally (or at least 9?) he did Demi type dmg didn't he? In the mission he did all stats drain and transfered it to the mob, but I don't see that being useful unless its the amount the mob got (which was a lot if there were few targets it hit)

Difference of opinions? You're crying about a CHARACTER MODEL. That's damn near the same as saying you don't like the idea of wearing a subligar because of the way it looks. No information what so ever about possible blood pacts etc..
So honestly, you should just STFU.

I always saw Cait Sith as a novelty summon for when Square/SE could not think of a better replacement. Cait Sith is by no means a regular summon throughout the series.

I don't see where they've stated those will be the only new avatars anyway.

Never said otherwise, I'd love more than those two. I was only speculating on the ones they mentioned, just like every other thread is speculating about other job crap. Jesus people, relax.

I can see Cait Sith giving buffs and stuff, such as increased critical hit rates and maybe debuffs. Nothing really offensively impressive.

Well, be grateful they're even adding new avatars at all. SE hasn't really bombed any SMN updates in quite a long time, so you SMNs out there should be excited for new content. Phoenix and Bahamut would've been really nifty, but at least these two are somewhat surprising.
Personally, I believe Cait Sith could bring some cool abilities to the table with the sporadic creativity SE seems to possess recently. Cait is quite unique as a whole compared to the other standard avatars, it'll surely bring a new style. Atomos, being a larger scale entity, really strikes as though it'll function similar to Odin/Alex and be two hour only.

Another reason I think it might be light based is
in the mission it does Level ??? Holy and another light based move that heals.
Special attacks from mission:
Special Attacks:
Regal Scratch: Single target damage.
Divine Favor: Full Erase. (May it be tested whether or not this move gives Cait Sith the ability to use AoE single target moves such as Scholars? During my encounter with him, he had several single target spells be casted in the form of AoE.)
Mewing Lullaby: AoE Sleep and TP reset.
Eerie Eye: GazeVerification Needed Amnesia and Silence.
Level ? Holy: AOE Holy. This is die-based (1-6), dealing anywhere from 300 to in excess of 2000 damage. Has the possibility to produce a "No Effect" on players in range.
Summons Atomos to assist him.

Not what I had in mind as far as new avatars go, but it might be interesting depending on what they bring to the table.
Though it would be nice to have these "high scale" avatars of high standing such as Phoenix, Bahamut and whatnot take on the similar stance of assistance as they had with Odin & Alexander.
But frankly, It's about time SMN got some new toys to actually bring out to play. Will be interesting to see what passive traits they'll give with Avatar's Favor too.
Also I'm down for the concept of non-elemental, yet celestial assistance since virtually every avatar a summoner has to wield is put on a strict elemental basis. Hence these potentially non-elemental and whimsical choices for new avatars.
