When I was in high school I had felt out of sorts one morning, but blamed it purely on my period. When I got out of the shower my vision blurred and felt dizzy. I shook it off and continued to get ready for school.
Later that day, we were running North Carolinas in preparation for track. Between sprints my vision became increasingly blurred, but I kept pressing on. (Athletics...No pain, no gain.) I ended up fainting. I had never ever had any health issues what-so-ever until this point.
Anyway, we found out that I was anemic, and that my irregular, heavy flows were only exacerbating the problem. I was put on birth control at age fifteen to regulate my menstrual cycle, and have been on it ever since.
Come to think of it, it might not have come to that point if I was ever able to openly speak about it with my mother. I dated a girl with the same issue, and yet her mom wouldn't let her get the birth control to help.

Although such a parenting policy would have to be carefully monitored and permitted judiciously based on the behaviors and maturity level of the teenager ... I really have no problem with this.
Sex is a normal, natural part of young adulthood. I'm pretty sure it's been happening for thousands and thousands of years. For whatever reason (thank you so much, Christianity), sex became taboo in American culture, to the point where it was deemed a sinful or shameful activity.
The so-called "sexual revolution" in the USA started in the 1970's and gained massive momentum for a decade or so until rapid increases in STD's and teenage pregnancies applied the brakes in the mid-80's somewhere. However, that only slowed the "revolution" down then ... and it's only really finally leveling off as we speak today.
Finally, it seems (maybe) we have a generation of early-middle-aged American adults that understand they have a responsibility to shape and guide their teenage children's sexual behaviors, with reverence and poise, rather than innuendo and anxiety.
Would you rather your teenage daughter have her first sexual encounter in the backseat of an extended-cab pick-up truck in a parking lot behind a strip mall?

Personally, I'd just rather avoid the entire possibility.
and do what? not seek out birth control options? also just because your doctor is using scare tactics on your wife doesn't mean it's true. if your wife has a legitimate medical reason to not use birth control that's different, but that isn't what you've expressed to us here...

I've been raised with this fairly liberal standpoint. My mum has always been very open talking about sex and sexual topics with me and so from a young age I've understood about responsibility etc etc.
I've always been allowed to have female friends over, never had to keep my door open or anything like that and I was never "checked on". While this may sound fairly negligent, I was a fairly sensible child/teenager with great knowledge of the consequences of not using contraception, not being safe etc.
End of the day, successful as far as I'm concerned.

better question is, where did you go wrong as a parent that your daughter thinks doing that is a good idea?

young adults susceptibility to peer pressure is not enough of an indicator to suggest poor parenting.

your daughter is being peer pressured into having an absurd experience like that? peer pressure will get your kids having sex earlier, not ***like Elanabelle's lurid tale. acting out like that is indicative of previous sexual abuse or bad parenting. :/

I think people see Jet and Elana's name and say "I HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH THIS!" in the heads instantly.
The entire pop culture (in America) is sex this, have sex sex sex look good be thin have big boobs be a giant muscle man HAVE SEX SEX SEX.
It pressures people to it.

You'd be surprised the things people are peer pressured into both related and unrelated to sex.

Every time I'm at the OB/GYN's office she says that everything is functioning properly.
Just saying...
Not having birth control can be more detrimental than living without it out of fear.

I think if it wasn't "DON'T DO SEX IT'S BAD" from authority and more "Well, honestly, we all want to have sex but you should think before you sleep or you could get screwed" teenagers would be very much better off.
But I do not have data to prove this. It's just a feeling, being a teenager and knowing teenagers.

I was born and raised in NYC, I went to boarding school in a remote mountain town in montana and then a traditional boarding prep school in connecticut. I got a pretty wide range!
in my experience, the anti-birth control scare tactics are a result of some men resenting that they can't fully control reproduction. it's just more religious insanity, and people who spout it off shouldn't be trusted unless they can explain themselves...

"everything is legal unless you get caught"
not saying give 14 year olds liquor daily, but if your 17-19 year old wants to throw down under the safety of your roof with your supervision, why not?
