Evasion And Counter

Just something that has thrown me for a loop. Ive been working on my MNK and getting it up to snuff. With that said Ive been working on breaking the latent on my Club of Trials (last WS I need to have all MNK Blue procs, w00t). During this process I have been discovering that Counterstance is alot more valuable than previously thought. Let me also say that my evasion is not capped on MNK. What has thrown me for a loop is that while breaking the latent on the Club of Trials I have gotten many Evasion Skill ups while countering.

I thought for Counter to go off you had to fail to evade the enemy and pass the accuracy check on your counter. This says to me that you fail to evade so you can't get a skill up. But at the same time you can get evasion skill ups when getting hit. Just curious on others thoughts on this. I didn't think it could happen til I saw it first hand.

*edit* you can test this real fast. make a level 1 char and run around fighting stuff.

You have basically answered your own question.

1. You can get an evasion skill up when getting hit.
2. Counter only occurs when a hit bypasses your evasion.

An evasion skill up off a counter is similar to an evasion skill up off a hit you didn't evade.

Counterstance has been worth fulltiming (barring a few specific scenarios) since 75. Whoever told you it wasn't good is an idiot.

You can get evasion skillups by evading, countering, being hit, and I assume anticipating with Third eye, but I don't play SAM so I dunno about that one.

No it would just be a single attack but I'm pritty sure if the mob double/tripple attacks you can counter multiple attacks. Aftermath can proc on counter I think though.
