I'm trying to do the SCH "Maat" fight (Cap 70) equivalent for my mule, and so far I am 0/4. I've watched all the videos I can find for tips and they all use a similar strategy, which is as follows:

*Go in, buff (Sublimation/Stoneskin included), rest to full.
*Dark Arts/Adden: Black
*Klimaform -> Sandstorm
*Stone IV the Crimson Grimiore, followed by a Thunder 3, which -should- kill it.
*Dispel Gunther's Shell
*Nuke til dead, using Sublimation and ethers when needed.

Here's my gear set:

Not the best, but keep in mind this is an alt/mule.
If anyone can offer some gear suggestions, or fight suggestions, that would be great.

Back in my day, we didn't have Stoneskin and all that.

Are you using Tabula Rasa when you're nuking? That's what I did and it helped a lot.

Gear Set: Made 2 small upgrades.

Hi-Ether
Hi-Ether+1
Hi-Potion
Hi-Potion+1
Crimson Jelly (+6 INT, +20% MP)

Have all HQ staves, they swap out based on the spell being cast.

Same strategy, but even with my 2 Hour, 6 nukes does not kill the Grimiore.

I'm at a loss.

Please assist.

This is pretty important. If Gunther casts Shell on the book, that will make your fight much harder.

You could use a Red Cape +1 instead of Blue Cape +1. Bugard Strap +1 instead of Raptor +1. That's all I can really think of that's helpful at the moment.

Never noticed him casting Shell on it, but that would explain a lot lol.

Do food effects, sublimation, or a Blink Band wear off upon entry? If so, new strat I came up with should work. Just need to get rid of the resting bit so I can start before he casts Shell.

Maybe a bit late but this is the way I did it:

First of all this is my equip for victory:

Main: Earth Staff (you want the 20% damage reduction)
Sub: Bugard Leather Strap +1
Ranged: ----
Ammo: Phantum Tathlum
Head: AF (Blink Band for Blink)
Neck: Elemental Torque
Ear1: Cunning Earring
Ear2: Moldavite Earring
Body: AF
Hands: AF
Ring1: Zircon Ring
Ring2: Genius Ring
Back: Black Cape
Waist: Penitent´s Rope
Legs: Druid´s Slops
Feet: AF

Now the macros:
1: Dark Arts, wait 1, Addendum: Black, wait 2, Tabula Rasa
2: Alacrity, wait 1, Ebullience
3: Earth4
4: Ice3
5: Thunder3
6: Dispell

Before entering the battlefield:
Activate Blink Band -> equip AF head -> activate Cream Puff -> enter the battlefield
(Blink Band and Cream Puff will not wear upon entering)

On the battlefield:
DarkArts -> Addendum:Black -> TabulaRasa -> Alacrity -> Ebullience -> target Gunther -> Earth4 -> Alacrity -> Ebullience -> Ice3 -> etc.

If Gunther should cast Shell on him quickly Dispell it.
Try to start casting directly after an attack of the book to avoid cancells.
After 3 spells Gunther should give up.

So you ignored the Grimiore? I guess Blink takes care of it if you do Alacrity on all nukes....Hmm. Will try that next time.

Ok, tried the spellzerg Gunther strat, no dice. Did exactly what you outlined and the Grimiore healed most of it.

Getting really frustrated at this fight now. 0/29 >.>;

I made it at 1/7 with that strat. After several gear upgrades.

The Grimoire must have been on light element. Otherwise it won´t heal him.

Iirc the Grimoire just casted 1 nuke at the beginning and then started meleeing me. And Gunther... well... he always started with buffing the Grimoire and himself and then switched to nuking mode.

You can see the Grimoire´s element by the spell it casts. So if it casts Cure its Light element, etc. Each spell to his corresponding element. And that is also the element the Grimoire absorbs.

Is there a way to tell before engaging? Would help to know beforehand ; ; Does it match the day or something?

That is the problem. Can´t tell which element it is until the first spell it casts. It´s not related to day or weather.

So fighting the Grimoire is just like gambling. It could absorb anything.
