I can't believe it, all my saves and DLC appear to have transferred with no issues using a Xbox > external drive > Xbox method. So much for buying a $20 cable just to transfer stuff from xbox to xbox!

I didn't know it would work, seems like by enabling this they eliminated the need for their own hardware (the stupid $20 cable).
Only downside is that it wouldn't copy the disc installs I had done, so I have to install all my games to the HDD on the new one, but beats losing saves and re-downloading all my DLC.
