Are you doing a headstand and drinking water? That could help. Maybe that, or you should give your computer a happy ending.

Leave it to me to forget that when you mention you can't open spoilers, everyone starts using them to taunt you. :x

Did you reboot after updating Java?

Did you remember to allow scripts on this site (if using NoScript)?

Not sure what else you could do off the top of my head. Seems like an unusual issue.

EDIT: Did you try a browser like Opera or IE to see if they have the same issue?

So it's definitely an issue with Firefox. Is it up to date completely? What add-ons are you running?

EDIT: Do you have this add-on?

Oops, removed spoiler!

No add-ons at the moment. Fresh download from the site should be up-to-date, right?

I know it's a pokemanz, but the red and blueness looks like Spiderman. That's partially because lately I've just been surrounded by Spiderman stuff. For instance, here's my brother dressed up for when we went to Comicon last weekend:

Yeah, he's the guy on the right.

Ignore this if you saw my edit already.

Get that Java add-on... You need it for a lot of stuff to work properly with Firefox. It usually downloads automatically when Java updates itself, so it's kind of odd that you didn't get it.

No idea. Catnip must be rubbing off on you. :(

I'm assuming it was for him. His two big complaints were that he couldn't see and that his feet were killing him, but it didn't really give him much in the way of support. It's basically spandex socks. But, he loved it. Next year he's going as Spiderman 2099.

Hah... I asked if you restarted and you didn't answer me! But at least you got something running.

What kind of errors are you getting from Windows Update? (And there's a good chance you're getting install errors because you don't have certain Windows updates yet.)

personally I'd probably consider a reinstall at that point.

can you easily move your files off that hard drive to do it?

In the case of trying to install FFXI, I get a "corrupt data1.bin" error, and DMO installer just fails the integrity check no matter how many times I redownload it <___<

Haven't run windows update yet on this install of Windows, but I would get "failed to install" errors before and betting it'll be the same deal.

odd, bootleg copy?

you could try to slipstream your windows disc with sp3 and updates, and drivers.

which should work better.

I'll be at school monday, if you're still having issues hmu I can teamviewer in and try to fix it. I don't have the bandwidth to attempt it from home, and I have to work the weekend so I won't be at my gf's house.

If it's a fresh install anyway I'd just do another one, is your hdd failing?

It is likely my HDD failing, but I don't really know how to check that.

It is a bootleg copy. (<__<) But I've been running Windows from a bootleg copy for a long time before I reinstalled and had no errors before.

hmm.

yeah doing updates beforehand would probably be better than trying to update online, that and downloading them from a trusted 3rd party.

hirens boot cd has some scanners to check it, plus dozens of other tools, it's great to have. (plus it has a mini xp and a linux environment that you can boot into to test if it's an OS issue or hardware issue, when it comes to other problems, not so much this one as it's hard to tell).

if you don't want to download it and burn it, you can mount the image, or look on the website and pick one of the hdd tools that they say they use and download it separate, pretty sure it's all open source.

download is halfway down the page

Since I don't have a nice stereo system, my neighbors are really making me wish my old PC worked (had pretty decent speakers, all things considered).

They got one of those blow-up above-ground pools. And they spend every day out there. With their kids. And their friends' kids. And those kids screaming. And them yelling at those screaming kids. And their radio playing on country music and oldies (not the enjoyable oldies) stations.

Also, sorry Laff, but I'm not sure what else to have you try. If I had a way to wipe it first, I'd send you my old HDD or something, but I'm pretty sure it was dying, too.

Can probably get a replacement pretty cheap. Or find someone who has an old computer sitting around that they don't mind giving parts out of. (Like me, but closer!)

Okay her new computer had extra space for a secondary drive and it actually worked, this time.
