Really?!? I never knew you spoke four languages! Italian and English obviously. What are the other two?

Yeah! My God! My German cousin, Margarete, went into the tourist industry after doing Hotel Management. She's twenty-five and makes great money in Switzerland!
French and German(but the latter is really bad atm, not speaking a language in years really hurts). Was also studying Japanese as fifth language, but meh, got bored of it.
@Uri: well I don't know about Hawaii, but I've actually thought about gtfo to another country.

Understandable. My German has gone to ***lately. Spanish is more useful here. That's probably the one I use the most, other than ENG.

If you have credits at a university in Italy you could always do a international transfer. There was a Japanese guy in my BF's frat who came here. He's in Cali now.

Lots of good scholarships for that usually.

Speaking of school, Zah you need to get to work on that Masters and Government Grant. You got 4 - 4.5 years understand?

Yep! Starting grad school on the seventeenth. I feel like I need to soak up AH time before I will have to give you all my farewell smooch on the forehead because I doubt I'll be goofing off on here for a while.

Psh.
You'll come back to us when you're bored between classes!

IDK. I'm kind of intimidated by the thought of work and school. I never did full-time work during my undergrads. :/

+1 uri for knowing the linguistic germanic family tree.

the huge change between old english (also referred to as anglo-saxon or Ænglisc) is due to the norman conquest of the british isle injecting large amounts of french loanwords into the language, as during the rule of the normans the language of the aristocracy became old french.

if you think english is bad now, it was way worse in the beginning of the middle english era. there were no grammar or spelling rules in existence, so anything could be spelled any number of ways. which meant texts commonly varied by region. slowly through the era english came to be regulated into something more orderly and concise. and then in the 15th century the great vowel shift occured which brought it to the transition point into modern english

This is true.
The closest you could get was to look at how it was spoken between classes. Which has more or less become the root to formal and informal English over time.

Edit: Class and regional difference would be better. Mainly regional being Scotland Wales and North/South/Midlands England.

i believed theres one dialect of england that didnt have a big a change during the great vowel shift, so even today they nearly preserve the old vowel pronunciations. i wanna say its blacksomething. its a small area in the interior of the country i believe

Hm not sure it's been a while since I studied all that.
It's still quite fascinating to study though one of my personal favorites.

It's one of my favorite studies in history but I have a few things I really enjoy. Middle-ages Europe, the crusades and Greek city-states would be just a few of the other area's I really enjoy.
