just saw the new the thing movie lol saw it with a person who loved the original :P was good. if u liked the first you should watch it :o or at least watch the original one first before watching the new one

I have this thing against old movies.. I just can't watch them.. Cheesy lines or special effects totally ruin a movie for me..

When I watch movies, I want them to seem somewhat real/realistic, if there's cheesy effects or acting, it just breaks the experience, I'm not really sure how to articulate what I mean.. For some reason I need those better graphics, even if it doesn't make the game any better fundamentally. There's just some things that you enjoy about stuff because you do. Also, those movies that you speak about... well, that's usually fodder for MSTing, as I call it. It's also why I'm a bit of a movie snob, and hated Avatar. The story... the acting.... BLUGH. But yeah, that's why I usually just stick with tv shows. I don't even know what movies are out in theaters right now. lol
I should be in bed. I've worked 6 days in a row with no break and I opened at 6am Friday morning and now it's almost 2:30am Saturday and I have one more day of work to go. =.= Weeeeee! Moneys!~
Well there were two movies prior to the latest one...John Carpenter's "The Thing" (1982) and the real original "The Thing from Another World" (from 1951.)
By comparison, the original (1951) will have horrid special effects, and the storyline will be quaint by today's standards. John Carpenter's version is a classic because of the acting...it was a great psychological thriller. Of course the special effects are from 1982 so they do look dated, but it's still very captivating and--in my opinion--worth seeing. I didn't see the latest one, but I hear it's supposed to be a pre-quel for the 1982 movie with Kurt Russell. Bismarck.Dierdreh said: » I should be in bed. I liked Avatar :( But I'm also a huge fan of movies where we leave this dying planet and the like.. I'm often thinking about other planets and how life would have evolved (because the life that evolved here, evolved that way simply because of where we are.. Life on other planets would be EXTREMELY different, so I like to dream about it, how it looks, how it acts, etc) so that was a major plus for me.. I like the scenery, seeing a new planet, new life, even new culture.
If on some off chance ordinary citizens are ever offered the opportunity to sign up and go to a new planet, despite the dangers of getting to it, or what await on it, I will sign up without thinking twice..

My qualm about that movie was the storyline. It's been done, as I'm sure you've heard people refer to it before as "Dances with Wolves" or "Pochahontas in SPACE Space space space..." To me it's like James Cameron didn't care so much about the depth of the story and instead focused on the graphics.

Just be careful. Usually after the Second Wind (at least with me) comes delirium. Back when I was working third shift, I vaguely remember getting my car fixed at a dealer and I was running on like a half hour of sleep for the past 3 days. I sorta remember striking up a conversation with an old lady about... something, but the whole time all I could do was concentrate on not passing out and watching her zooming in and out as the background kinda swirled around her. I slept like a baby the rest of that day.

Still though, it's pretty hard to come up with anything 'original' anymore, and as time goes on, everything is going to be more and more familiar.. There's only so many ways a general plot can go, and with how many movies/books/tv shows/etc are produced every year, it won't be long til everything is like everything else only with a new wrapper.
