And that's why I have my worked saved.

But, I have this circuit board:




I have the background as electric blue, the circuits are a layer above it, and then the hologram looking effect I made on the top layer. I cannot figure out how to make the holographic effect affect just my circuits and not the background layer too.

so you have in layers:

-holograph
-circuit
-background

and just want to have an effect on the top 2 layers?
if so, you can "lock" the background layer to prevent changes to it while you mod the other 2

I want the holographic effect on just the circuit layer.

I have this on top layer, but lower the opacity to 20%:



But I only want the effect to cover the circuits and keep the background plain electric blue.

running things out of memory right now, since I dont have Ps on this computer, but on my laptop which is at work :<


I think I know what you want, you could try this:

on your layer window, select the "holographic" layer, and look on the same window for a scroll down menu. one of the options there should make the layer view-able only on the 2nd layer objects.

you might need to hide the content of the last layer, merge visible, then once the top 2 layers are combined, un-hide the bottom one and should be unchanged.

would advise saving a 2nd file before merging tho

the problem is the holographic effect is covering the entire image, if i hide the bottom layer you can still see the effect just no blue

actually i figured it out. was so dumb, can't believe i forgot to do this.

change the layer setting to dodge, up the opacity, turn off bottom layer then merge the visible ones. I knew it was easier than I was making it.

It's supposed to be a design for a car, car is electric blue and they needed a circuit board look, with a darker electric blue and they wanted it to have the oil sheen look like it was super polished or the sun was reflecting.

I think it looks better with a brighter sheen:
