Brazil is laughably corrupt (so are most western countries these days though) and they have far more serious problems than this to deal with, someone else is behind this. Once Musk stopped the alliance of corporations from advertising on his platform, there was always going to be push-back in some way they could not easily track.
While I agree about most of it, this case in particular is different.
I dont think its being motivated by political reason. I really believe that judge who issued the blocking order (keep in mind its not your standard judge but the highest in country, direct representative of judiciary) really got drunk by the power and have been constantly pushing his limits through the years.
He felt directly challenged by Musk's provoking, and simply decided to use his power to show off it, because I dont think this will have any actual results with so many social medias around there.
But its shameful he abusing his powers to decide something that would affect the entire nation only because some trivial bickering like those Musk do every day. More shameful yet because none is actually voicing the absurd of this event, not the president, not the legislative, just meekly the media thats just partially alligned to the current government.
Yes, because most of that judges power comes from his own bickering with the previous president, what made him quite popular to the followers of the current one. Those followers simply applaud everything that judge does despite being absurdly questionable actions.
My own opinion... well, the highest judge in country was directly involved in the bickering. Any fair judgement should be done by impartial court, but no, the one offended himself was the deffendant, was the judge and even was the one applying the sentence.
Finally, the supposed reason for the block was that Musk didnt sent a representative of X to Brasil. IMO this is just formality, makes no sense ceasing the operation of a platform because something so small. At most, a fine would be more than appropriate. But the judge knew a fine would mean nothing to Musk, so resorted to simple demonstration of power.
VPN isn't hard to do for even the layest person.
What is laughable actually is that the judge know about this, and determined a fine of $10k for everyone resorting to VPN to access X.
In this point in particular, even the specialists of laws here voiced it was exhagerated and not viable in practice.
But here we are, when someone abuses the power and already lost his limits long ago.
Only if Panta is fine with strict censorship controlled by one person.
I will never endorse any censorship (except for actual crimes). I think even the most garbage information, more terrible hate discourse can be filterd by individuals, and that is an exercise humanity has to learn for this new age of information: people need to learn to process information, its just not good anymore receiving any and simply accepting without filter.
So, even if I consider those gargabe content could be harmful in short time, in a long run is a necessary step to humanity evolution.
