whoa whoa whoa....

someone mentions a candidate for office these days and its shutdown city.

but then i jump into over a page of biblical references and talk of "the Christian god"?

P&R dying apparently only affects half the discussions that used to be there.

I am 79 years old. I have tried my share of drugs and probably all your grandparents' shares too. DMT was among them, yes.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure it wasn't the R part of P&R causing all the flaming and tom foolery.

I bought a copy of 1984 like two years ago since I have never read it.

I’m on page 35 now and it’s pretty terrifying.

We are all f’d. Lol
essential reading, more than ever.
Maybe if more people read that book more would realise the importance of free speech and keeping money out of politics and the media.

Oh. this. Yes I've seen many talk about how the christian God was just an alien or time traveler.
Sorry, the Ezekiel / flying saucer thing is only tangentially about god due to the vehicle / saucer often being described as god's chariot.

The controversy is all about is this a flying saucer or a vision / hallucination.

Have you ever tried DMT?
That line always cracks me up

UFOs real? aliens or some secret blackbox technology, or some ancient civilization that was dormant and now being caught as more and more communication technology becomes more and more available to everyone?
This was filmed by someone I know (the title says "UFO" in Arabic):

The guy is a polyglot & a polymath, with an IQ of over 190. Just pointing out that he's not some random dude chewing grass.
Djin bro. Seen one cruise by me at the pace of like 10km/hours. All casually. Infront of many other people. Everyone just went into a state of disbelief, silent for 20-30 seconds. I was the youngest one there. I just looked at everyone like wtf do you see that?! It wasn't more than 10 meters away. just cruising.. casually, burning red bright and hot.
Oldest guy finally responds all casually "ifrit".
and then they go about continuing their argument over money.

As much as I hate to say it, that is much like taking the sex out of prostitution.

As to 1984, it was terrifying in the cold war era too. It gets better. Well, as literature, it gets no less scary. If you like scary it gets WAY better.

Been spending some time with the 2nd half of the FF16 demo, it actually does have an in depth combat system. The lack of a party still bugs me, but it feels smooth. It might finally get the mainline series back on track.

This is why ignorance is bliss. Everything you learn about makes you just a little more miserable.

This is why "they" don't want you to know things. To learn things. Happy little worker drones and consumers.

"They" aren't some shadow cabal of illuminati or some silly ***, there's no in secret or mysticism. It's just rich people. And it's right out in the open. So blatant that it's in plain sight.

Give me prolefeed and doublethink!

I’m about halfway through now.

This copy I happened to buy was printed in 1984 and has a nice afterword by some guy.

I didn’t need this book to tell me any of this, I have been well aware for MANY years. Lol.

But damn, I guess I was unconsciously hoping it wasn’t this bad.

Random unnecessary addition. I noticed a tiny book store half a block from me. I am going there tomorrow to hopefully find a bunch of banned/ungoodthink books.

You didn't need that book to tell you any of this...but perhaps if the world had listened to Orwell in 1949, all of us would only read dystopian fiction for fun, not for strategies to handle the next 30 years.

Fact is, books like 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 were warnings in their day, and tales of how we got here now. Ignorance and the majority of 10th graders already shitting on their reading lists instead of approaching them with a ready mind- that's how we got here. So yeah- 1984 reads like an obvious kids tale in 2023, but again...had we just listened to these warnings from brilliant men 70 years ago, what a different world we might have.

Makes me wonder about what "silliness" in fiction is being ignored today, only to be seen as prophetic in 50 years.

EDIT: Oh! and no one reads 1984 and thinks "what a great idea!" Everyone thinks that "if the world would just listen to ME we wouldn't have all these problems!" Path to hell and how its paved, that's all.

What a lot of people seem to ignore is that those kind of dystopian fiction are based on what the author is experiencing in their own time. It's not even necessarily being prophetic so much as being satire. Things were bad then, so they'd write an exaggerated story of what they saw. It just so happened to get worse, so we're simply living in that exaggerated reality now.

while I completely agree that the inspiration for that dystopian fiction of the post-WW2 era in particular came from what those authors saw in their old world, I can't agree to classify it as satire. Ok, probably not prophetic, but I have always viewed what those authors did was take the extremes they saw in their own times and pushed those extremes to the absurd- not because the absurd was impossible to imagine, but because they saw the natural progression if not stopped.

The real horror is that we in reality allowed it to get to the point where these works almost stop being fiction.

Actually we're right on course for Star Trek; ***got a whole lot worse before it got better. Just gotta hope you survive the sanctuary districts, riots, civil wars, and then World War 3 and you might get to party with the Vulcans in your old age.

Definitely on course for it, exactly, but the idea that we can course correct, and get there is the "no *** way" part.
