»People were up in arms about the cutscene camera in Mass Effect 2 actually showing the faces of the characters talking rather than constantly zooming in on Miranda's ***. I'm sure part of it is because it's "offensive", but for the most part it just breaks immersion.
They changed this and told the press about it in an interview purely for advertising purposes, outrage advertising works very well.
If I make carrot ice cream, my biggest problem is letting everyone that likes carrots know I have this ice cream for sale.
So I just make up some fake outrage nonsense for people that like carrots (or for people that don't like people that like carrots) to stoke some controversy, and they now all know I have carrot ice cream for sale. If the fake outrage issue isn't that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things I just had a massively successful advertising campaign for free.
Almost everyone found out about the ME remaster because of the *** camera stuff, it wasn't that big of a deal since they didn't change Edi or other "problematic" things so it was a massive success cause they all bought it.
