Every time my friend insults FFXI in an attempt to get me to play that game with him, it makes me hate it more.

XIV is a good game but it isn't XI 2.0.

For that matter isn't XI 3.0 now? When I left it had evolved into something I no longer recognized.

I think this is basically it in regards to most people who like XI and their reaction to XIV. They don't really give a ***about XIV they just want XIV jackoffs to stop bugging them.

Don't get me wrong: XIV has a lot wrong with it, if a wow-clone nostalgia cash shop is your bag though: go for it.

As regards to the above "joke" yes, especially since I just made an Armageddon.

Edit: although I think the Gundam one could have used more blue/red in the scheme.

I absolutely hated XIV, but then my only experience with it was during the beta test when it was a s***show. I understand it got better after some "reborn" thing, but I had already decided not to pursue that game. I do know a lot of people that loved it though, so I've no doubt it had some redeeming qualities.

I never understood the desire to belittle or ridicule someone for enjoying a game, and there was a lot of that when FFXIV first came out. I didn't want to become one of those people. That level of mentality seems to stem from an enormously insatiable inferiority complex.

i think most xiv players don't even know xi is a thing. i think people here just like to be victims and are really whiney.

That is a very odd stance to have, especially considering it really caters to FF fans overall.

XI players are much more like the WW2 generation of MMO players, always talking about "the good old days" and how much harder things are...but always in a proud way of those battle scars. We know our game is in a format that is dead, and take some sick pride in the grind.

It honestly takes me back to my high school days. Everyone around me played WoW (even the popular crowds), so I gave it a try. I didn't mind it all that much, but I got kinda bored of the never-ending chain of quests, and I got kinda bored of the aesthetic and gameplay. When I asked those same people to try FFXI as I had done WoW, I was met with scalding hatred. I didn't even put the game down, I just said it wasn't for me. Eventually I did start getting defensive, and I even got to a point where my entire life started revolving around hating that game.

FFXIV is much the same now. I gave it a really honest shot, and even recognized it for its strengths. But my friends being complete boobs about FFXI, even though they'd never even tried it, really turned me off. And because I had to put up those defensive walls again, I started actively seeking faults in the game. Now I can't even stand the thought of playing it again. The mere mention of it in conversation makes my blood boil.

I used to think the same way, now I just adopted a "I dont care" stance. It honestly does feel like a lot of them are brain washed, but its funny how the player retention rate in that game is so poor. People would always harass me to try and play it and then a week later they would quit the game because they were bored lol. Nothing says you HAVE to play 1 MMO forever, you can easily play one until you're bored and then try another. You don't have to convert everyone over to the new game and worship it.

I made a comment in another video, but its crazy how people will convince themselves something is fun just because it has pretty graphics. I bet so many people would play XI if it had graphics like that lol, which isn't a surprise considering how much money people spend to upgrade their systems to have the best graphics. Although I still think XI graphics are very unique and still hold up in 2021.

To me, XIV has a terrible combat system and I can't fathom how people find it fun to bash their heads against a wall to get mechanics memorized in order to win. It really must be how WoW is because I never found that fun, so I never played it. Now that it has a FF skin, I guess people want to be apart of that.

The hate for XI is def real though, can just read any comments on it in 2021. You have your pick of the nostalgia goggles 75 cap thumpers or the XIV crew.

I wouldn't even go that far. XI is a PS2-era game and XIV is a PS3-era game. It has more polygons, sure. But beyond that it's subjective.

for real though. xi haters? lol dude no one except people who play xi are thinking about it. if you ask someone who left why they left they might say they didn't like the changes that came, but it's not xi hate and they aren't out trying to actively convert people. SOME people here just like being impassioned about nothing and whining like ***.
