I don't think I've ever seen a game that is less graphically appealing than Team Fortress.
I can think of a few more that may fit in that place for myself but this is certainly one of my issues with the game.

The style of it really bugs me in general, though I can understand how the characters work well with the style and they're very recognizable... they just erk me.

Kinda like how I can't stand WoW's art style.
I personally think WoW's art style is pretty great.... other than the armor design aesthetic. The armor is generally way too huge and ornamented.

The armor is probably the most glaring issue, but I still overall find its art style very... cartoony? It just kinda bugs me. Though the recent graphical updates have helped a ton, it's still just not a style I enjoy.

I'd say that it's not appealing due to CJ, but some may consider that mean.

I laughed at this way more than I should have because it's true.

I literally watched this again yesterday in a random FB post. I'm assuming you are just at the same level of "wtf" with it as I?

I managed to watch 30 seconds before I had to turn it off.

Stupidity and lack of vision/courage reigns supreme in companies developing mmo these days.

i think just as much blame can be laid at the feet of consumers. theme park mmo's only work when people aren't up for being challenged. i believe there is a market for something different, but no one has hit the mark yet.

xiv is at least an interesting enough of a world to entertain me while running around with friends.

There was. Look at ffxi... brutally forcing a community together by intent. And now it's fairly theme park like. Not as bad as a lot of others but perfectly fine with AC all the things

ffxi was released in 2002. they also tried to be more like other mmo's when abyssea came out and ended up losing a good chunk of player base. i don't think it's really relevant to "most games are bad these days" 16 years later.

Perhaps I didn't explain myself properly lol. I wasn't trying to say they still existed so much there was a market clearly. But ffxi has somewhat mirrored how that market has largely changed. And some of that isn't completely the bases fault so much as the saturation. People are inherently going to be less likely give something as much time to properly evaluate it when there are already too many options to try. So less forgiving games are much harder to sell
