For those who are interested in linguistics Italy is a pretty special case as we have a bunch of different languages that vary by region. We call em dialects here but that's actually wrong because the dialects would be the small variations that each of these languages have within the region, but if I speak my language to someone from Milan and viceversa we are 100% unintelligible to each other. Like welsh would be to english for instance.

The only language everyone can understand is tuscan because it's the one the official italian was built on, and roman because it's similar enough to tuscan to be easy to understand.
As for all of the others it feels like being in another country entirely lol.
