Same thing happens on Xbox One as well~
I think it is giving, you get to play a game with only providing an online subscription for games you play online anyways.
The alternative is stealing it if you want a free experience~
Well, my point was how the PlayStation service has that "Expiry" tag on it's contents. Last time I checked XBOX360 stuff only movies had that "Expiry" property.
Any contents with that property are effectively rented. Of course if you renew the PS+ service they will just replace the item certificates at the act of the renewal.
But I don't think you get to keep the licenses if you stop paying for a while then start paying again. Basically you would have to "build" your library again, no ?
On steam when they give you something, it's really free.
edit: I don't know how XBOX One stuff work (and to be honest I have no interest on the current gen of consoles) so I might be outdated. I presume they kept the PS+ "modus operandi" for the PS4, right ?

X360 doesn't expire, Xbox One does since a recent update that put everything behind the "paywall" as people are calling it.

Idk, the game developers pay sony put their games on PS+, I can only feel that is better than pirating it. matter of opinion, mine's a bit jaded with not giving a *** about Sony or M$.
even less *** given about the xbone or the pee4.

IMHO pirating stuff on the PS3 is a very cumbersome experience.

You can either pirate the game, or if you're currently playing a game online for PS4 or X1 then you can try their game out for free, which I think is a good deal.
If you were someone against pirating completely then PS+ would be a great alternative, because like I said PS+ provided over $1300 worth of games this year. You might not like 99% of them, but the ones you did like you didn't have to pay for.

It's not really a big thing, Kali. It's as you said. If one keeps paying the yearly fare, that is.
The point was SONY could not compete with Microsoft on the argument that online had to be paid so they came up with the idea of offering games for "free" with the premium service.
You see they never offer AAA+ items on the promotions (not saying they don't offer good stuff, just that they don't pick big 60 bucks games for the deals).
I believe they eventually found out that it would not work against the established business model that Microsoft came up with for their XBOX Live "ecosystem". So PS4 is "Pay or don't Play Online" business model, too...
But really I can imagine the current generation of video games have the potential to be the last one, with the mobile gadgets gaming taking over in the near future.

It is, it's why I haven't done it yet.
My friend was lucky enough to have an older model and had a low enough firmware to where he has cfw right on it, no hardware mods. I let him rip some of my discs sometimes. I have considered getting a modded PS3, but there's so few titles for it that I care about it's moot.
As for the PS+, their concept of "$1300" in games is not the same as mine, there isn't "$1300" worth of games out there for the console, in my opinion. Then again to me crap like cod and madden you'd have to pay me to store a copy of, I consider their value to literally be less than $0, I'm sure the same would be of most of the titles they tossed up there.
The only time I've considered PS+ is when my PS3 hiccuped and got stuck in a file system check loop and I was too lazy to remove the drive and pop it in a linux box to recover the data.
I decided when I play again I'll just periodically back up my saves to a flash disk and call it a day.

Got a question for people that use dual monitors.
With all the stuff running in the background on google and net browsers, are you getting extreme lagging now?
I have a chance to scoop up a Xeon comp but don't know if it's really worth it to use dual monitors or just run two computers. Thinking of electricity wise also, rather than run two full desktops.
If you have a wimpy GPU, it could put strain to extend your desktop to a resolution it doesn't have the VRAM for. However, that's more applicable to rendering video across both screens. If your browser is lagging on you, that's definitely more of a CPU/RAM thing.

More interesting than having a lot of video memory is having a lot of FAST video memory.
Having multiple displays mean that the video controller hardware on the GPU will have to scan twice as much memory it would on a single display configuration. So as Art said, wimpy GPUs won't cut it even if they have "enough" memory in quantity(as in MegaBytes or GigaBytes), because it would still be too slow for achieving a acceptable performance.
Budget GPUs are usually designed with business use in mind so they will certainly work fine for desktop stuff and maybe even some Photoshop usage. But when you go to the gaming territory, you start to notice why they make $500 GPUs ...
