Assuming you're using apple's proprietary messenger service, you should have a function to remove your telecommunication provider while retaining your own connection via wi-fi.
Is it a GSM model ? If so, can take the chip out ?

I thought that due to the iPhone being also a music playback device/tablet-ish device which can still buy apps from Apple iTunes they would not apply that "rule" of not operating without a sim card attached.
Lame ... lol How about you taking another chip from another phone ? Do you have any older phones at your place with chips in them ? After the chip "expires" it does nothing but can be used to make the phone turn on, no ? what about beau?
