had to try p hard not to buy a 980. my 780s will serve me just fine until the next generation comes out, I think.

How are they on the benchmark charts compared to the 770? I've been wanting to get a 770 but if a 970 gives better performance for a similar price point, then obviously I should go for the newer and possibly more efficient chip.

970 is significantly stronger than 770, on par with or slightly ahead of a 780. Only upside to 770 now is that it's been moved down to $220.

980 is a monster. Beats out 780ti by 10~15% according to benchmarks at around the same pricepoint. According to sources, 770/780/780ti are being discontinued, so get em while you can if you have any interest.

Seeing how the 980s start at a little more than $500... This translates to: AMD is ***.

Also: If the older series are being discontinued, will the ones still on shelves be reduced in price you think? That's probably up to the sellers since there's no basis for MSRP anymore.

AMD is pretty ***, unless they come out with something soon. The low pricepoint on the 980 is like a callout. And the price will probably go down, but rise again as supply bottoms out. 770 is already at a huge markdown.

It doesn't help that AMD's new FX line offers very little performance increases to their current line along the 8350s. They've been selling the same piledriver architecture for years and years and years now. So they really need an ace up their sleeve in both their GPU and CPU departments if they don't want to be utterly crushed by Intel's Devil's Canyon and upcoming Broadwell, as well as Nvidia's 900 series here.

I'm still running 570's and really haven't found anything it struggles with too much... I couldn't keep the fancy hair teslation whatever thing on in Tomb Raider, but from my understanding nobody could. I may get a 970 since it should be a fairly large improvement over 570x2. Still using a first generation FX-8120 though (OC'ed to 4.5, so it isn't like it is lacking too much in power).

Been itching to build a new PC for a while though, but I want to do a whole new build. My 750W PSU just isn't enough power when it comes to over clocking, I'd like to bump up to native higher speed RAM, and would also like a fancy case with a see through window because... it's fancy.

The theory was to wait for Broadwell to come out, go with an i7-k and get a 970 to be mildly future proof like this build. Maybe a little later down the line toss in another 970 like I did with the 570's when the 600's came out.

AMD will never beat Intel on CPUs, they're too far behind. GPUs they may still come back up on... but doubtful that they'll ever surpass nVidia. AMD's got their hand in too many cookie jars. It's like ASUS, cheapish products compared to the competition, but not the same quality.

I will say though they have a pretty good thing going with their APUs. For a sort of budgeted streamline solution, which worked out pretty well for their use in the XB1 and PS4. Obviously those are commercial based sells more so than the end user base.

i'd be more impressed if their APUs weren't holding back my PC gaming due to the "next gen" consoles being so ***. there's only one reason sony and m$ went with AMD APUs: they're dirt cheap.

Haha yeah. I speak strictly from a business perspective on that one. Cheap all in one solutions are simply not an option for those that seek excellence and efficiency in performance.

I have to ask, what are you planning to run that needs more than 750w? I'm sorry to come out of the wordwork and sound skeptical, you may know exactly why I ask, but there's a very large misconception about PSU's and how much power ACTUALLY~ is needed to run at an efficient capacity~

Just curious :3

Right now I'm running a power hungry CPU and dual 570s. When I try to OC everything I found I just don't have sufficient power, so figured I'd update my PSU next build to not run into that issue again... Also I want a modular PSU <.<

It's entirely up to you (and possibly testing, your system obv :) ) but I'm fairly sure 750 in general is enough to power that system just fine.

Not saying you shouldn't buy another, as a cable management freak modular always gets a thumbs up. Just you know, invest in a solid rated psu and not something.. well stupid like Diablotek.

I was going to mention budgets and etc but hey I dunno what your plans are. It just sucks watching people throw away potential build options on an extra 100$ for a 1200 watt psu that.. really just goes to waste. :X Money better spent on other parts IMO.

PSU was just the option by default when I couldn't figure out why I kept crashing. After tuning down the OC on everything it got better. Talked to people and did a little calculator thingie for my higher OC stats and it was rating it at about 800W needed. It's a Corsair and 80+ Gold, so not exactly a bad PSU.

Figured if I'm gonna drop money on a fancy case that I don't need, might as well spend an extra $150~200 on a 900 or 1000W PSU as well. Figure if I do SLI again then I would know for fact that wasn't an issue when I start to get crazy with the OC stuff.

Figuring a ~$2500 budget should build me a pretty beast mode PC whenever K edition Broadwells finally drop.

The only reason I started SLI was because 600s came out like 6 months after my build so I got a pretty awesome deal on a second 570. More and more games are starting to support SLI and it is getting updated constantly. Figure within the next few years it will be rather commonplace for SLI/Crossfire support.

I'm a bang for my buck kind of guy, so I try to build PCs that last 2~3 years without issue. Then when games get to the point when I can't keep everything maxed out regularly, I see when next gen is coming out and plan around those.

Random note... The AnastasiaDate Russian girl ads are far more my taste than the Filipino ads were.

So I just watched Under The Skin.
It was, weird. Unexpected despite knowing what it was about.
Sadly the best part of it was Scarlet Johansson being topless here and there :/

If all of my various instincts and thought processes inside my body hold a vote to decide what the best part of a movie is, any movie ScoJo is in, she gets votes for "best part of the movie", even if it's an outstanding movie and that particular vote loses.

That thought process didn't type out quite as clearly as I thought it, but I don't care.

What I'm saying is, she's just great.

It's Friday, comrades!

Awww yeah. Based DIMPS saving DragonBall games.

EDIT:
The main story seems to have been taken from DragonBall Online; Mira and Towa are empowering villains in the past to change events (Raditz breaks away from Goku so Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon doesn't kill him, etc).
And Frieza's race are available for custom characters so they're using stuff from DragonBall Heroes too.

Wonder if this means we'll get some of the cool what-if characters from it like Super Baby Janemba. :I

I gotta trim my beard and mustache today. It's getting to terrorist level. Afraid the guards of the base will stop me again. Also it's getting annoying to sleep, it keeps rubbing on the sheets and it's rather annoying.

I should probably tame the underside of my goat, but precision trimming is really annoying and I don't want to take the whole thing down.
