Random Thoughts.....What Are You Thinking?

So, I hate RMAs. RMAs are returned buttons. Basically, they fail in the field, the customer sends them back, we repair whatever went wrong, and ship them back to the customer. My supervisor also hates RMAs. Therefore, he's really bad, and I mean REALLY bad, at doing them.

So. He's out sick, he had strep throat and then his tonsils swelled up and then he got abscesses on his neck and so forth. Not cool.

But whenever he's gone, we have a massive RMA panic because we're three months behind on them because he never does them and all that. Today was one such panic! Stress for everyone!

So I started the morning off with frantic RMAs, and got called off to do some technical writing a bit before noon. While I was gone, my writing handler told my stand-in supervisor (who is one of my regular coworkers, we can call him S today) to have me shadow one of the other girls and learn a new product because I'll be writing the SOP on it soon. S "forgot" to tell me, I didn't get the message until two hours later, the other girl was already finished. Oops. (S is kinda of the opinion that my first and foremost duty is in HIS department, and anything else is far less important.) S doesn't quite understand that my writing handler outranks him. By a LOT. So that was an issue!

So after lunch I was back downstairs taking buttons apart. And I hate it, because spiders crawl inside the buttons and lay eggs. So you pop a button open and you get spider web and spider egg and sometimes spider carcass all over you and it's horrifying! So S thinks I'm going entirely too slow, and I probably was. I'm cautious when opening spider traps, ok! So he comes over and starts ripping them open (at roughly the same speed that I was, but it made him feel better so I didn't fuss.) And he rips one open, and...

a bunch of stuff comes flying out! GAAAAH! FLYING SPIDERS! RUN!

But it wasn't spiders. It was crushed rose petals. Someone sent us a button stuffed full of crushed, dried roses, like potpourri. I don't quite know how to take that. D: Does my company have a secret admirer? Did some Mulan fan somewhere decide to bring us up some potpourri at the front? Was this a warning-- "FIX THIS BUTTON OR WE WILL CRUSH YOUR SOUL LIKE WE CRUSHED THESE ROSES" --? Meep! Anyways, long story short, there is crushed rose all over my desk. And we all have those lattice mats over our desks, so I have crushed rose stuck in the lattices. So that was exciting.

Then the big boss came downstairs to help us along. He's used to us not doing RMAs. Oops. So he came down, looked around our room, and started scolding S out for it being a giant WRECK. Looks like a tornado went through! Bolts and screws and tools strewn everywhere, empty boxes tossed around, peoples' desks piled up with the projects they've been working on for two weeks, random junk shoved into corners and onto carts. So he scolds S out, turns around to walk out of the room, sees another tool laying on a desk, and turns back around and says "SEE THIS TOOL? PUT IT AWAY!" Then turns back around and leaves.

So as that was happening, I was putting an empty box onto the bottom of a cart. We always do that, we put empty boxes on a cart until we get a bunch of them, then we take them to recycling. S turned around from his scolding in time to see me put it there, so he bellows "SEE THAT BOX? PUT IT IN RECYCLING!" Now what he didn't know was that the boss had turned BACK around and walked back in just in time to hear S bellow at me. The boss is really pretty fond of my husband, and they are both really kind of protective of me. Oooops. So I picked up the box and scampered out, and when I came back in the boss was gone and S was furious. I don't want to know. Oops oops oops!

So then S went on a rampage, scolding everyone out for their messy desks and walking around yelling "What's this! What's this doing here!" and bellowing at everyone. D:

Tomorrow let's hope for no flying spider scares, no creepy crushed anythings in buttons, a cleaner work room, a less cranky boss, and a less angry S. That would be rad. xD
