Was just thinking about this today, and KNEW there would be something here I could tack it on to:

I have had one encounter with a "crazy" religious group - the Westboro Baptist Church planned to crash a funeral of a Marine from my town, so a bunch of other Marine vets, the Marine Corps League, and the Freedom Riders came as well and we all kept them away from the family.

On the other hand, I've read probably thousands of posts and have been involved with dozens of rl conversations about how atheists are so smart, so much better, how religion is stupid, *** up, etc etc etc.

On balance, in my experience, the smug, smartass, "holier"-than-thou, *** have had a far greater negative impact on my life than any religious group - crazy or otherwise.

Just sayin'.

Hm, don't think anyone was saying each group doesn't have their extremists...however, considering the UTTER lack of respect the WBC shows for the dead, I am simply amazed, and frankly, a bit disbelieving, that ANYONE could have an encounter with both and still think the atheist extremists were the worst...

Since when have atheist extremists ever protested at the funeral of a dead soldier...?
