AFI (before Davey Havok was a woman) Son of Sam (old) Misfits (Danzig) Cradle of Filth Marilyn Manson (old) Rancid Tiger Army many others... It's not really possible to list them like this.
Ill add to that Placebo and strangely i have an unhealthy obssession with LostProphets.
perhaps cos ive done the backstage thing with them and toured with them etc but yeh.. top guys
I clicked this and expected the worst. Tool? AFI? Dead Kennedys? PLACEBO!? This thread is full of win. Very Surprised.
I'll throw some lesser known artists in the mix. All writeups are my own:
1. ATOM AND HIS PACKAGE - new wave
Meganerd Philly native Adam Goren bought a synthesizer in his teens and wrote tunes about being..a nerd. He strangely developed as legit artist and created some wacky and unique stuff with real talent behind it.
Highlight tracks - "Possession" "I'm Downright Amazed At What I Can Destroy With Just A Hammer."
2. THE BOUNCING SOULS -punk
Asbury Park, NJ natives. Quintessential perfect 80s style punk music written in the late 90s.
Highlight tracks "Kate Is Great" "Gone" "Fight To Live"
3. BUILT TO SPILL - psychedelic rock
The band for musicians. Neil Young Infused Hypno-Rock with unreal slide guitar fills. Doug Martch stands alone.
Highlight tracks - "You Are" "Else" "Kicked it in the Sun"(Outro on this track is a mind-blower)
4. THE GETUP KIDS - indie rock
Had this band been on the scene in 2023 they'd be everywhere. The early 2000s were just too busy with talent for TGK to get noticed. Catchy tunes with a slightly college feel. Can't go wrong.
Highlight tracks - "Holiday" "Action In Action" "Ten Minutes"
5. NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL - Acoustic Vaudeville Rock
After reading The Diary of Anne Frank as an adult, frontman Jeff Mangum created an unbelievably perfectly sequenced album exploring his feelings of adoration brought out by strong empathy for Frank's experience. Sloppy vocal ranges seem somehow perfect in "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea."
Highlights - "Two Headed Boy" "King of Carrot Flowers, p1" "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea"
I ran a radio show in college for 4 years. I love this stuff. Let me know if this all sucks to your ears. People always hear things differently.
In no particular order because I can't pick: Finntroll Eluveitie Fairyland Ensiferum And uhm, Epica or some other female fronted band like Nightwish before they became le suck. /nod xD
