You made 10k. What about the guy that made 200k from crafting ( aka someone that is actually crafting)? Is it better for him to buy the shards or to farm them. You know, it's called economics. Those that buy shards are not the low level crafters that have trouble gathering 10-20 k at their levels. I've been selling wind shards for 300g a pop for 3 days. Not my fault if SE didn't balance crystals requirements.

I kept all of my shards, and my profit is fine. I've made over 500k on helmets alone. If I had sold my shards I would no longer have that profit, and If I had bought my shards I would not have that profit.
Selling shards is a foolish way to make gil. You are gaining a large amount of gil quickly but losing out on gil in the long run.

i haven't been able to play....stupid family visiting...i want 500k....
Yeah WS are def worth the cost of time to use them, and you get more exp from Guardian's Favor. Do a leve and pay attention to how much exp you get, it will be considerably more. Now as far as the time frame of running to the mobs spawn points every time, i havent really testing that out yet on an exp/hr basis.
I do know that field leves are the single best way to level gathering professions and the crafting leves are the same for them.

If you have no interest in crafting classes, Shards and Crystals are a great source of income. And should you change your mind later, there's no shortage of them from maybe an hours worth of wildlife genocide.

Well I'm not really levelling up an actual class. The game needs a bit more polish before I'm willing to jump in with both feet, so I'm going to level up crafting classes and that's it for now. And a few gathering classes too.
It may seem boring, but with the game being as it is, I'd rather have a huge chunk of gil to spend when something I really want comes out (Gunblade knight gooooo).

Quick basic economics.
A --- > B
Player A farms and sells to B (money goes from B ---> A)
B ----> A
Player B crafts and sells to B (money goes from A to B)
If you think that it's better to farm and craft good for you. In order for an MMO to work their needs to be poor and rich people. Rich crafters will buy their cristals to build money quickly. Simple.

Alternatively I'll farm all of my crystals, as buying them in an MMO inflation is stupid lol. I've seen people selling shards for 50 each the price is already going down.

Graphics are amazing, makes logging in to XI hard to look at
Making money seems much easier (Gil chests ftw!)
Class System is a ton of fun - setting all of the abilities and such kind of reminds me of playing Blue Mage
Sense of exploring a totally new world after almost 5 years on XI
GRAPHICS!
Dislikes:
Anima regeneration waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to effing slow
No AH
Technical issues already mentioned with parties, "target already engaged," chatting, viewing the log etc
Conjurer is HELLA overpowered (inc nerf!). I wish I had started conjurer now instead of melee. Don't feel like going back and trying to reset all those points...but sheesh with the way these guys pwn...they cure, they nuke, hell they even melee like a champ >.>
This game, though it has it's issues, is going to be amazing. Even with the glitches/bugs I've had such a blast running around since the start of the CE. I remember stories about XI @ NA release and it seemed like ***was pretty crazy back then. Hell even looking back at my time on XI and all the things that changed/improved is promising enough. It might take a few months but once a few of these technical kinks get worked out and people get their bearings a bit, all of us Final Fantasy fans will be in for a real treat.
BTW I'm Critical Mass on Trabia, I was in the LSNI shell on beta but have not posted to get repearled - I'll be on later tonight if a sack holder can hit me up plz :D

Perhaps the server economies are different, but no one buys wind shards for 300gil on Trabia, I've seen the same people with 200gil+ shards sitting in their bazaar for days, when I check someone's bazaar and see shards at over 200 gil I think to myself "that dude is out of his mind", and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one considering that they have yet to sell them. Why would anyone pay that much when the majority of others are selling them for 125 or less..
So yeah, I'd have to agree as well, and I wouldn't count on being able to keep selling them for that much, for much longer, especially considering the full release is just around the corner. Basic economics also follows supply and demand, the supply is going to jump a lot more then the demand is going to, thus the prices are going to drop further (since obviously not everyone that will be joining us is going to be crafting, this is a certainty).

Hate: I cannot kick someone from a linkshell unless I ask them where they are and travel to there to literally find them. If they are being obnoxious and rude on purpose they could just hide forever and there is nothing you can do about it.

I feel obligated to point out that the folks who were so sure that beta was "just beta," and the game would be magically improved in every way for launch, were completely wrong. And in some ways, like closed beta targeting bugs coming back, it's actually worse.
The only thing improved is client and server stability. (Which is a huge improvement -- don't get me wrong.) Everything else though, from UI lag to economics to available jobs to gear choice to available quest content, is identical to beta.
This is not to say it's a bad game. I'm enjoying the hell out of it and imagine I'll probably keep playing. But the experience is so far identical to beta with more people. The four RL friends who bought it to play with me have already quit out of frustration, in only five days, and I'm gunna have to try and get them interested again once quality and quantity bar improves.

The major thing you're missing here is that the game isn't technically "released" yet, and there's supposedly a huge update (Like 5 GB huge) planned for the 30th, when the official game ships.
What we're playing now for the CE, this is just a bonus.

If the game is sitting on store shelves in Gamestop and I can walk in and buy it like I did, and they want credit card information to play, it's released.
The "huge update" for the 30th is also only a rumor and not confirmed by SE. A similar update was rumored for CE launch and never happened. I'd be nice but I'm not holding my breath.

I figure starting up a new MMO from the start is similar to using a newly released operating system.
Probably ideal to wait til all the quirks, patches, content, stability and whatnot are worked out before making the jump over.

I know you know a lot more about MMOs than most people, and have every right to be cynical about this, but you went back on one of the major tenets of MMOs. The game is only released when the developers consider it released. FPS creators don't have the option of just shipping a game with the campaign intact, with 4 different weapons, and no multiplayer. They have to have it all done on release date.
MMO creators, however, do not. Whether or not you want to admit it, SE has a huge team and it would be inconceivable to think the game would not improve over time, and likewise kind of pointless to say there's no chance of an "official" unbeta-ing once the "official" game ships.

Mostly cuz I'm not focusing on one single craft.

It was also worth mentioning that it is possible that the people actually working on the project were stressed to hit a release prior to the end of the third quarter so their profits would count in that margin rather than giving it more time which it clearly needs.

Oh, totally. They're going to make the game better. I'm just disappointed that the quality of their second MMO at release does not seem to have considerably improved over the quality of their first at release. I hope that's not indicative of where this game will also be X years from now.
I want XIV to be orders of magnitude more successful than XI was. I'm completely behind SE on this. But I don't think they need Yes Men right now -- they need people making lots of constructive criticism and pointing out flaws so they can fix them as soon as possible.
