Hi all. I have tried searching numerous forums but I didn't find much of what I was looking for.

I'm looking for some people to share their lucky or unlucky streaks of finding those rare items found inside the Bellys of the Lik and Gugrusaurus. Currently I'm 0/38 on Gugrusaurus.

I hear rumors of people going 0/1000+ on these items to be ~1% chance of finding them. I hope I'm not one of those unlucky fellows.

If you wouldn't mind sharing your experience, I'd be greatful. Any advice or input is greatly appreciated.

I went 1/75 on Gugrusarus and 1/485 on Lik...

From what I've heard/seen the normal seems to be about 600 total fish. However, there is always a chance you do get really unlucky and go 1/1000+ On one of the items =/

btw moonphase has nothing to do with it ... I think it's got something to do with luck ... aka "a random between your connection and the server" that's my theory

I was wondering if turning in the fish in bulk would make a difference or somehow increase your odds/probabilities, while we're cutting out the theories on the items. Any ideas?

Blackmageviper from Hades turned in something like 1100 of one of the fish. He had a diary posted on titanictus.com of his progress - but the site has since been taken down :(

1/372 Opal Silk
1/1207 Saber Shoot

So, I'm certainly up there for having the worst record.

I fished most of the Lik, and bought most of the Gugru. I ended up selling all gear worth over 70k, and went ~6 million gil in debt to my brother, but I made all the money back in a relatively short amount of time after I got ebisu and sold Gugru.

As for advice: You haven't gotten close until you start becoming superstitious while turning in fish to Zaldon. E.g. Equipping all fishing skill+ gear, /bowing to Zaldon upon entering/exiting his room, and of course moon phases.

Once you start checking your inventory, mog safe, mog locker, and storage for a saber shoot/opal silk that you "must have accidentally gotten when you weren't looking," you're almost there. Maybe. Probably not.

Edit: On another note, I have 21 matsya. I fished a bunch of Cave Cherax for the Fish Ranking contest, ended up with a bunch of ex bait, and decided to stock pile matsya when/if they decide to make them guttable.

I have all my statistics here, but it roughly comes out to 2 catches per 12 ex bait (Line snaps, lost due to lack of skill, jelly fish, mobs cause loss of bait). You end up making only a little bit more gil/hour by fishing/NPCing matsya, than you would if you just NPCed all the cave cherax to a normal NPC (Zaldon only gives you 1/2 the gil).

1/10 on Lik...

1/348 on Gugru.

And Lik were rediculously easier to catch. Like I got 12 lik in a few minutes before I got a break and no zoning etc at lvl 80.

Gugru at lvl 100+ I'd break 1/3 at least. At 80 I broke most of them lol

I'm fishing on the ferry now for Gugs. I haven't tried Liks yet, but it did sound annoying to constantly ride the boat, so I figured I'd get the gugs out of the way first.

They break line ALOT. I carry 2 Lu shangs on me so it's not "that" painful. But I end up breaking the rods fairly fast @ 100 fishing with all the fishing gear I could possibly stack on.

@ Nibu; that sounds very painful-- but in the end the rod paid for itself and it was worth it right? I won't buy my fish. I'm too poor for that. I rather take the time to fish them up, even if i'm lucky to get 1 gug per ferry ride :(

EDIT: Everytime I get just 1 catch thats motivation for me to think, thats all it takes is just 1 to get lucky hehe

I was 1/103 on Opal Silk and 1/107 on Saber Shoot on my RL friend's account, who later quit and gave it to me lol :/. Another friend I'm helping was 1/3 on Saber Shoot and so far despite me spamming Liks for him, is 0/1600. I told him it's SE balancing out the epic 1/3 drop haha. So it's a bit of a frustrating quest that's for sure :).

Yes, it's awful I feel so guilty for him :(. I've heard of the horror stories from others but I always chalked it up to exaggerating...that is until this happened to me. He's given up on it 3 times and I've tried to get him to stay on track and not give up, and I'm spamming Liks so sooner or later...:).

Yeah, the rod paid for itself after about a month of straight fishing and selling ebisu fish, but your mileage may vary depending on the demand on your server. I just checked lik/gugru prices for the first time in several months on my server, and it looks like sales have stalled and prices have dropped a bit. Although the AH records can be deceiving as a lot of purchases happen through trade or bazaaring.

More than profit, though, it was worth it just for bragging rights and a sense of "completion." Again, the actual utility of your rod really is going to depend on the economy, but knowing I have all the best fishing gear I can have is "worth" the price in and of itself. And the fact that I turned in more fish than 99% of others out there, in a twisted sense, makes me proud, and is testament to my determination/mental illness.

(Not that anyone with a good record is less deserving, or is unable to enjoy it as much as I did)

Yeah litterally as soon as I got my rod people stopped buying the fish for it. Like the 2 extra I had bought took 7 months to not sell before I npcd them. It was horrible
