They can't make you pay rent for another month if you're not living there. Especially if you gave them written in a timely fashion. I was a bad tenant in my younger years so I went through this stuff before. Most states require a 30 day notice, but most landlords let it go if you found a person to fill your place. It's up to the landlord to refurbish and withhold your deposit if they have evidence that you were negligent. They can charge more, but most suck it up and just take the deposit, but for them to say you gotta pay another month cause they aren't done fixing/cleaning the place for the next tenant is their loss.
