So we seem to be enjoying each other atm...let me bring on the flame machine:
Matt Daemon is better than Mark Wahlberg
/dropskeyboard
I wouldn't even consider this controversial. Damon has better movies all around.

I wouldn't even consider this controversial. Damon has better movies all around. You wont believe how many arguments ive gotten into about that particular statement.
I think wahlberg suffers from the same problem: He CANNOT just not be the guy from Boston. Ted I think is one of the few movies i enjoyed with him in it. Lone Survivor being a military docudrama i dont count because military docudramas arent movies, THEY ARE MUHFUCKIN FREEDOM TAPES!
Anyway, even in Lone Survivor he is a Texan...that sounds like the guy from Boston (Though in large portions of this particular movie his performance is quite solid) .
And he usually goes WAY over what the part requires :<
Case in point: I found wahlbergs character to be THE MOST ANNOYING in the entire film because he delivers the lines so god awfully :<
also, its an M.Night film and i think he purposefully just kills his own movies from the start for shits and giggles.

Oh, I'm not basing quality on money, I'm just saying he doesn't care anymore because...ego and money, yeah.
As for Charlie Sheen, he actually made some great stuff in the 90s.
The Hot Shots movies are excellent.
I mean, he's not the pinnacle, but he had some good ***.

Brian Blessed.
Blessed has his own trope, for ***'s sake.

Honestly the actor's I've enjoyed the most out of recent years?
Simon Pegg both helped write and starred in The Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy and Nick Frost was the costar for all three. I like how they satire their source while paying homage to it at the same time. Iirc Romero who directed the original Dawn of the Dead thought Shaun of the Dead was brilliant.
Those movies are among my favorites.

Charlie Sheen is of those people where you have to take in his real life to really appreciate his work.
Obligatory:

The Happening is just terrible unless you frame the entire film as a comedy / meta humor. M.Night's awkward obsession with an environmentalist agenda comes across with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer to the face.
The whole thing is a mess. Wahlberg is hopelessly miscast but saves the film with his hilarious acting. I'm certain the whole thing was intentional.
And yeah, Wahlberg is stuck as a lovable bruiser type from a shady background who can't shake being from Boston. Damon is just a better actor both on range and the movies he's been in. Wahlberg is heading towards SLJ/Denzel territory. He just plays an exaggerated version of himself. But that's Wahlberg's niche, he's a likable dude who isn't to be taken *that* seriously.
Saving Private Ryan
Good Will Hunting
Oceans
Bourne
vs.
The Happening
Planet of the Apes
Four Brothers
The Fighter

I thought when his daughter filmed him drunk and trying to eat a hamburger to make him stop doing it was sad though, just, but sad.
That wasn't William Shatner, that was David Hasselhoff.

Possibly because he's a likable ex-con from Boston.

Wahlberg actually did a great interview on Top Gear when he was on, talking about how weird it was being in prison while his brother was in New Kids on the Block, and they'd be on the television in prison and he'd be going, "hey, that's my brother!"

It impresses me that you folks can actually notice acting ability. I'm always focused on the words, not their delivery.

I'm glad Bourne happened because it forced the aging Bond series to modernize but at the same time Bond has taken in a bit too many Bourne-isms. Casino Royale is easily one of the best Bond movies though.
I didn't care for Quantum or Skyfall because both lacked the sense of grandiosity that Bond is known for.

I didn't actually like Casino Royale, it might have something to do with me having a big dislike of poker, and you take that away and it's not the best film. Quantum is one of my favorite Bond films there is though I'll admit most don't agree with me on either point.
I love them both, Daniel Craig is easily my second favorite Bond.
And despite my tendency to be nostalgic, my favorite isn't everyone's favorite curmudgeony Scot.
Edit: I think Quantum sadly fell victim to be the "middle piece" of something that left people wanting more. From a storyteller perspective I felt it was both well made and well written.
It's just not a marvelous stand-alone piece.
Oddly, the Empire Strikes Back tends to be so many people's favorite Star Wars movie, and it's pretty much in the same situation, so...

idealic images of Grandpa Bill... sitting by the white house fireplace with a child on his lap...
and ok... so what if the child is an intern and they are playing "hide the cigar"...
it will make a great chrismahanukwanzakah card...

I don't have a favorite Bond but Roger Moore was terrible. Thanks for giving Leslie Nielsen tons of parody material though.

#passiveaggressivecompliments It wasn't, though. I genuinely don't appear to process acting ability and envy that other people do.

Some may not be clear on your ASD you've noted in the past, or may be unclear on the specifics of what that can mean for processing social cues or communication and the like.

Random Politics & Religion is for topics that aren't thread worthy on their own and do not have their own existing thread.
Rules and Guidelines
Forum Rules and P&R Section Guidelines still apply.
Satire is tolerated.
If your topic covers a story over 6 months old (Watergate, Benghazi, 2012 Election, etc.) post it here.
Discussions on racism, homophobia, transphobia, and the like are allowed, targeted insults based on these will not be tolerated.
Political debates get heated and are meant to be intense, if you take offense to being called or proven wrong, you don't belong here.
If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen; if you prove you can't handle the criticism you bring upon yourself in this thread, you may be removed from it. You are responsible for what you post.
Along those lines, heat is fine, but sustained, clearly personal hostility is not okay. The personal attack rules still apply. Attack positions, not posters. Failure to adhere to this will result in your removal from the thread.
This thread is NOT the Flame Core.
These rules are subject to change and modification where and when needed.
Random Politics & Religion may be mained or demained depending on the activity within at a Moderator's discretion.
With that out of the way, let the debates begin!
