I think that people today suffer from information overload to a fairly large degree. We know that we have access to pretty much any information that we want, but having that much knowledge at our fingertips generally causes most people to go for the low hanging fruit(or ignore the archive entirely). You know, like what does the reddit consensus say? I'll just wait for so-and-so to do the math. Lemme just wait for that guide video to come out.
On the one hand, it's very convenient and makes life easier. On the other hand, critical and free thinking is being slowly ground out. Heck, maybe thinking in general is being shredded.
Or maybe it's just revealing what people are like, buy and large. Lazy, and more than willing to have someone else pull them along on a leash. Probably the same throughout history, just with a different entity holding the leash.
