Hi!
So, at some point this week, the March FFXIAH patch will hit, and with it are going to be some changes to the Politics and Religion section. I've given it a lot of thought, and consulted both the moderators and some of the heavier posters, for what I think is a viable and sustainable model to keep this section flowing while still maintaining a sense of order. If you have questions or concerns, ask them here.

Also, on topic: On the infighting clause, when you lay down the hammer, does it hit the one who's the most troublesome or does it hit both parties? The point of it was because there's a number of long-running fights that aren't real clear who started it; so it's very much a "I don't care who started it" sort of deal. For example: A: Martin O'Malley is the leader we need in these troubling times B: A, your idiocy is matched only by your lack of hygiene A: Blow me, B then both go sit on ice for a while. Without A's retort, just B gets sent to the penalty box. Makes sense? The idea is to prevent the endless escalation, and make the punishment for even starting that kind of thing so clear that it acts as a deterrent. (I know there will still be infighting. I am not that naive.)

Why not just make a "post was edited at x:x" appear like many other forums do?
Either way there is a very specific part of what was said that I firmly believe doesn't work, but whatever. Not like the section is going to change much since the topics are the same delicate ones.

First, I want discussion to be a little more measured, and make people think about their post first (as KN points out). Removing the ability to edit is a push in that direction, though I don't expect it to be a panacaea. Also, while people adding lots of extra content or substantially changing content annoys me, if I hadn't gotten so many complaints about it, I wouldn't have done it just for me; there was no shortage of complaints about that kind of thing. Post history would have been nice, but the existing schema is not friendly to it, and I think from a workflow perspective just forcing people to go to the next post is a more natural fit anyway.
