Right now I have an unlocked,rooted G1 on AT&T. I can't connect on AT&T's 3G network since it was designed for T-Mobile. I can use edge though, yay. I heard the G1 might have trouble when it comes to upgrading to Android 2.0.
The new Moto Cliq with MotoBlur is a pretty sweet phone. More for the type of person that likes to use twitter facebook and myspace. But besides that it has some pretty awesome features.
wtf? are they serious? How the *** are you gonna stop update support, On a phone that is a little less than a year old? /fume
My phone has the Donut 1.6 update sitting there waiting, but I hit download and it wont download. If thats the reason why, then thats *** ***. Its just sitting there teasing me.
I got a year and a half left till im due for an upgrade, and there is no way im gonna sit here with a phone that wont update. Wow im pissed.
My G1's running v1.6. Although, like you mentioned before, I doubt that it'll get 2.0. From what I've heard (which is nothing I'd consider concrete), the G1's problem is analogous to the PS2's problem with FFXI. It's already running out internal memory and most likely will not have the space to accomodate 2.0.
The Cupcake and Donut updates really went a long way in stabilizing and speeding up the OS. That being said, I somewhat regret going with T-Mobile. When I signed my contract, my city was scheduled for 3G coverage in Q3. Dealing with Edge speeds for a few months didn't bother me at the time. Now it's Q4 and unfortunately my city mysteriously dropped off T-Mobile's 2009 3G expansion list awhile ago.
If I could find a way out of my contract without paying the fee, I'd be seriously tempted to pick up a Droid after the new year. It really does look like a great phone.

I'd like to know how you got your G1 to update to 1.6, since mine will not.

For what it's worth, my phone isn't rooted nor did I do anything to force/download the update. I received it OTA sometime in September, I think.

As did I. Yet it wont download.
/sigh I guess I'll just to a T-Mobile store and see if those morons up there can figure it out. -.-;
I also have 1.6 on my G1. Would be nice if they could fix the future update problem. Phone needs a few stability tweaks. Otherwise I really really enjoy my phone. <3
