As Lord Armorer presiding over Naldiq and Vymelli's it is in my power to assist younger Armorers in the way of my craft. Please post any questions you may have about low level Armory / Crafting in general and I will try to answer/help as best I can.

When do you use pliers and when do you use hammer?

Also, what kind of crafting gear are you using?

Hammer = +1 +2 items
Pliers = Higher quantity of items

That can't be right, because I've HQed on ingots using the hammer and gotten 2 of them. Similarly for plates, etc. And when I HQ on rings using pliers, I get +1 rings.

Maybe it's the other way around?

I've done what you said also, but what I said is directly from what SE said on the Loadstone.

Lodestone said:
Q. I am able to choose between using my main hand or off hand tool when beginning a synthesis. What is the difference?
A. Main hand and off hand tools have varying characteristics which manifest themselves in different ways when a high-quality result is achieved while synthesizing. There are many possible outcomes. For instance, a successful synthesis with a main hand tool may result in a +1 or +2 item, while the result obtained with an off hand tool may be a higher yield of regular quality items.

Key word bolded.. They didn't say all craft's (or any craft) main hand will result in +1 or +2 items, they said it may do so. They were just giving an example, not a specific answer.

Which hand happens to HQ or HY the synth changes depending on what the item is. Plates and Squares high yield with the main hand, while rings and chains high yield with the off hand.

I try to piece together the best cloth/leather crafting gear I can that is level appropriate. I try and avoid gear choices that do not have ARM on them, so that you don't get penalized for not being a favored class as well as gear choices that have optimal ranks overly high in comparison to my rank.

Items Like:

Head: Coifs/Scarfs/Spectacles
Body: Doublet/Doublet Vests
Hands: Half-Gloves/Smithy Gloves
Legs: Slops/Tights
Belt: Leather Tool Belt
Feet: Dodoskin/Leather Thighboots

HQ crafting tools are a nice addition as the HQ adds bonus craftsmanship/control/magic craftsmanship.

I can't seem to do the rank 10 local levequests effectively despite being rank 11 ARM. Was making bronze chain (11) with 50% success with Armourer's forge.

Do I need a new crafting tool for better success?

Yes, up to rank crafting tool is a definite must. Gear with supporting crafting stats: Craftsmanship/Control/Magic Craftsmanship also helps.

Which stats are important for ARM? I see you have lots of VIT. I would've thought STR and DEX would be more important. Does SE say anywhere which stats affects which crafts?

Yes, Vit is the stat that affects Armorer. Str for Blacksmith, Int for Alchemy , Mind for Weaving, Dex for Goldsmithing, and Piety for Cooking. I'm not sure what stat affects the others.

What about doing quests for the armorer guild once you've joined up? I just finished the initial quest and got my 2k guild marks but I'd like to get more. I know you can randomly get them from doing lvl 20+ leves, but I've heard that there are also quests specific to the guild. I can't find them, though, and none of the NPCs offer anything. (Also, something about Parley?)

What level can I start synthing Haubys and Bronze Scutums? The recipes listed say 21. So does that mean I should be 21+ or can I start earlier?

What would you recommend synthing at R22, ive been doing iron nuggets > iron squares > toes, but im not entirely convinced about it.. it seems id get more xp for the money doing bronze rings > chain...

Bronze Scutums I'm not so sure but Haubys you can definitely synth at rank 20 with relative ease.

Bronze... stuff? I honestly can't remember what I skilled up off of in the teens. TBH it was probably Bronze Wire/Rings/Chains for the majority of those levels.

Best skill-up at 28~29? Preferably low shard cost and avoiding wind.

If you wanted to avoid wind shards all together you could probably still pull rather decent SP synthing Iron Buckles at those ranks.
